I have searched everywhere for these as well, never found any, I think they are just too well hidden............

(there are some highly illegal number-plate covers in the US that work off solenoids............big fines if you get busted with 'em on. Do a google search....)

Saw a white R1 in the city yesterday. It was interesting as the plate had velcro stickers on them . Now that's a bright idea!

Be Carefull,

Concealing a number plate with "intent to decieve" is a criminal offense I have heard. Think it's 3 points and a heavy fine also.

You can buy them here:

http://www.tricktape.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=5908

but theyre on backorder at the moment.

Its just a fair whack of cash for something ive heard no feedback on so I was hoping someone might know if theyre worth it.

Reckon it has to be better than the cover I use over the plate at the moment.

So you're not looking for something like a Fastag then ? These are the best number-plate 'accessory' you can get ( but bloody exxy).

Fastag? Never heard of it.

Do you know a site to check them out?

not straight off the top of my head - if you did a search on the US site

zx12r.org

and did a search under 'fastag', you would get heaps of info on them.

They are a solenoid-controlled device to allow you to wash that really hard-to-reach section of your rear mudguard, that bit directly behind your number plate. It flicks the plate up........so you can clean properly...

otherwise there used to be a particular type of persepx cover that had some type of inbuilt 'pattern' ( similiar to headlight lenses), which made it unreadable from any more than about 5deg either side of 'directly behind', again these type of plate covers are highly illegal and I wouldn't recommend using them at all. Not even sure if these are still made..

Good luck - Google is your friend

You can make your own 'fast tag'. I know of someone who used to have one on their ZZR11.

I heard a viscious rumour of someone who had made a numberplate cover from the same LCD material they make welding goggles from.

End result is that under bright flashes, the cover tints and the numberplate is no longer readable.

Probably just an urban legend...

Or... you can PM ZX-10R_04 and ask him nicely for a DIY instruction

I take it that the LCD is more 'Urban' than 'Legend'...

Can this REALLY be done??? It would certainly solve a few of my problems!!!

At a guess, no. For starters, because the trigger mechanism would rely on an light sensor picking up a sudden spike in ambient illumination, such a system could only work during the night. (the systems in welding masks might trigger off the abundant UV generated by a welding arc; a speed camera flash goes the other way-it flashes mostly in infra-red). Even then, though, the system would only trigger when it detects a flash of light, meaning the plate would become obscured *after* that. However, the flash from the speed camera isn't a precursor to the photo being taken; the photo is taken *during* the flash, and they work off microsecond-range shutter speeds. Ergo, the camera will have already taken a photo by the time the system on the bike's obscured the plate.

It would certainly solve a few of my problems!!!

Ultimately, these sorts of systems are only of use against fixed speed cameras, and, to be honest, what kind of Bozo the Clown gets done by one of those?

My view is that all such a system will get you is extra attention from coppers who might happen to spot the perspex sheet over your plate while you're pulled up at a servo before a ride. Hell, all I do is keep my rego label fixed to a corner of my plate, and they never fail to give it a jiggle when they have a chat with me.

The cops know systems like these exist; otherwise, the penalties for deliberately obscuring one's plate wouldn't have recently increased by the amount they did.
