Nikos - I reckon you should get another compression check done. With the compression in #3,#4 as low as that, basically it should barely be running, and be very hard to start.

If it is still starting well, then something else is the problem. Low compression does not automatically mean 'engine stuffed', it could be poor valve timing (worn cam chain, as already pointed out), or more likely, the 'zorst valves in #3 and 4 have dropped into the head, and are not sealing properly anymore. Also could have lost some small pieces from around the edges of the zorst valves, possibly have worn valve guides, there are a lot of things to check out first.

If you had worn rings only, the bloody thing would be rattling its head off at idle and down low....

Got any strange engine noises ??

maybe pour some top end cleaner down each of the pots, might turn out that the rings have seized up a bit and are stuck in their groves.

Yep I will be getting another compression test...
Probably going to have to hold off on doing the actual work until uni is finished for the year though.
Gotta chat to rossi (Thanks mate) ...

Workshop manual is on the way (Thanks Marranda)

It starts ok, not straight away, but within a second of starter button being pressed. No odd noises.

Gotta have good compression or those mint leaves don't get mashed firmly and you don't end up with a FANTASTIC MOHITO!!!

maybe its from riding around pissed, on the grass, towing a tarp??

maybe ur bike's metro also and it just wants u to THINK its farked so it gets new shoes??

Mate,
you said you'd taken it in for a MAJOR service ?
Did they set the valve clearances ? If not ,,,,,,, why not? and what was the compression reading after ?

I think someone may be yanking your chain, with the readings you have on 3 & 4 your oil level should be rising as petrol would be forcing its way into the crank............not to mention the pressure in the crank should be able to be felt when you remove the oil filler cap, but you know me mate... I once thought I was wrong............ but I was mistaken

I'm with everyone else here Smek, the readings just sound too sus' to me.
Get a 2nd opinion and dont tell em about the first one.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, if the cylinders had lost compression would that mean the bike would be burning oil as well?

depends on the reason for lost compression

if its rings then yes likely

if its a leaky valve then no wont be burning oil

other possible reasons are head gasket and all depends on where its leaking
