What to get?

Well seeing as i'm going to be walking for a little while in the upcoming months, i figure i should put some money into some silly toys to keep me busy while i'm walking.

The choices i've come up with are:

1) RC plane, most likely one of those dodgy hundred buck electric jobbies that's guaranteed to go out of range once it hits 100m and then crash into something. Unsure if i'd want to subject myself to this sort of misery again after doing so in my youth.

2) rc boat , im taking this one sorta seriously as i've found a half decent methanol powered one (70cm long, 2.5cc buggy motor) on ebay for a nice tidy sum of money. Only problem is hoping the fugger doesn't cut out on me & taking a swim to retrieve it if it does.

3) RC car, Hey it had to be put down on here, im thinking petrol powered again, have to shit the neighbours off SOMEHOW.

4) rc hovercraft, what better way to be a knob in my own living room?

5) just continually get drunk, i can see my liver having issues with this.

Oh and track days are kinda out of the picture due to my shift roster being absolutely scattered and me most likely being suspended over the chrissy season when there's f/all on in the way of trackdays. That and i'd have fun getting the bike to/from EC

A mate is big on his RC planes and helicopters.

He has a link that allows him to plug his radio into his PC to control an R/C aircraft sim.

I'm shit at it and continully fly the aircraft into the ground, trees, the ocean, cliffs etc.

If anything, it's saved me wasting hundreds of dollars on R/C aircraft repairs.

R/C boats are cool. They are harder to crash and you only have to concentrate on going forwards and side to side. They are good right up until they run out of juice out in the freezing cold water and you have to swim to get it.

Maybe i should get a electric boat as well and use that for a tug to pull the other to shore when the first one wigs out on me


And agreed, fast and as fun as rc planes are, you've got f'all margin for error and can only play the law of averages so long before you've got a smouldering pila of balsa and plastic.

Electric or Nitro 1/10 scale 4WD buggy or touring car.

I used to race electric 1/10 scale on-road, great fun and unless you hit something really hard, pretty bulletproof. Bit expensive setting yourself up though, I have a couple of thousand bucks worth of radio, car(s) and batteries in the shed .

Same sort of thing occurred as when I try go riding more than once a year. Ros starts organising family things on the racing weekends, then starts complaining I'm having 'Mick-time' twice a month and then I just give it away as a bad joke .

have u considered a pocket bike?? if u have sumwhere to ride it of course...


im running with the "get drunk" option...and my liver isnt happy with me either....but itll get a recovery when i get my licence back...

hmm other options... pushbike?? and get urself fit (i find trying to do wheelies/stoppies etc & become a trick rider funny, and energetic, if not a little painful).... or take up a sport??

Well pushy is a bit of a given, already got one that's dramatically under-used, going to probably take up pushy riding a helluva lot more (was thinking of using it for transport whatver it is that i end up buying, that being said, i'm that keen on the idea of having to go swim in the tributary's of botany harbour, something about pollution. That being said, I could always rig up a electric motor to it too and use that to crawl it back to shore.......

Nah not married, but with this one i might as well be (in a good way!), and i've been told that i'd be newly-single if i tried to find another missus on the side.

Go the boat!

I have an airboat that'll do over 100 km/h (on the right day with a scimitar prop and the right fuel mix). Running out of fuel's not so much the issue as running out of radio range. It used to have a LEO .46, but the front bearing busted - cheaper to get another engine. Speaking of which, a 2.5cc engine in a 70cm boat isn't going to push real hard.

I've also drawn plans up for a 3 foot chainsaw/brushcutter-powered boat. I made a scale hull to test before committing to the big fella, and testing went well. Trouble is, I lost my round tuit.

Well this is the boat i was thinking of, 40 inch/1 meter long, DEFINATELY not going to be running along terribly fast..

this is 25cc and only 200 with two days to go, muhahaha!!

Yep. A while back repeated use at high speed cracked the back of the hull. It now has a reinforced fibreglass transom and the speccy paint job.

In current trim the top speed's down a bit due to prop choice, but it accelerates like the proverbial scalded cat.

All depends on how much money you want to throw at something, how much space you have, and how much time you can put into it. In order of escalating cost
