Steve Irwin has done more for Australia internally and externally than anyone else I'll ever see in my lifetime.

I used to think he was an idiot also, until I learned more about him. What a sad loss to Australia.

I was never a huge fan of the bloke, but his worst critics would have to admire his passion. I remember hearing how many times he had been bitten by various nasties, but he loved them all.

Must admit it did hit me a bit today. The country has lost a real character, and a young family has lost their Dad.

RIP and condolences to his family and friends.
Cheers

Ya know, I used to think he was a knob, but the more I saw him, the more I liked him.

He had a passion and was one of the lucky few to make a living out of his passion. He loved our amazing country and the free creatures, beasts and insects that roam our amazing world.

He's left behind a legacy that we, as a race, should look up, regardless of how you feel about the man.

RIP to a true Aussie.

RIP Steve, you used to bug me a bit with your over the top character, but i guess it was just that, character. I watched his snake docco a while ago, a bit nuts, but i respected him in the morning afterwards.

more links about Steve. Apparently his daughter was right beside him when he got stung, i feel sorry for her more though, he's not in pain anymore, she has to live the rest of her life with the memories of seeing him die. :-(

On Enough Rope tonght they replayed the interview he did with Denton I spose a year ago or so, is probably the only reason I respect the bloke, seriously passionate in that intrview about conservation and his family.

Previously thought the bloke was a knob to be honest..

I thought the guy was a legend. I agree with Aardvark, we seen a lot and learnt a few things from Steve.
He will be missed.

Thoughts are with his family

southpark did something with " Steve Irwin " in it and roughly quoted sums up Steve's antics . "Now if I stick my thumb up his arse itll REALLY piss him off "

Dissagree entirely with him being touted as being a "typical" aussie " and his style of stirring up poor creatures to such an extent that they revert to their most basic instinct ... to strike . Anytime I saw him , just wished he would LEAVE the poor thing alone

To make gain out of sensasionalism TV by tormenting animals shits me .

Now rant over , and despite always despising what I see as a form of animal cruelty , he certainly had good intentions and loved all the creatures he went out to film . Respect his passion and feel sorry for his kids loosing their Dad when so young .
Ummmm let me see

We Loved him here in the US. He was awesome, he gave your country a great reputation, he was exactly the stereo type Americans think of when they think of an Ozzie. Tough, Funny, Great Natured, the kind of guy you want to hang with. Shocking news, totaly unexpected, he certainly will be missed.........
