So with the petrol prices going up like a skyrocket, i have been pumping the cheap petrol into the bike for a while.... ULP... There is sometimes a price difference of 12-14 cents.....

I figure if I put a tank of PULP in every 3rd tank or something I can save myself a few bucks...

Sound thinking? or am I playing with fire?

just watch out for some servos.. my mum put some fuel in from woolworths servo and it didnt like it.. whenever she started the car and started to move.. it stalled every single time .. this is in her car btw.. a big ass V8.. it sucks the fuel i can tell you.. which is why shes selling it and getting her license

I wouldn't use rubbish fuel for a few reasons,first is that the engine is designed for a minimum octane rating (95) and won't perform to spec if you don't use it,it'll run rough and you'll get lower mileage,(well I did in my van when I tested 95 and 98,95 worked best btw) and at the end of the day for 15l of fuel the difference is only a couple of bucks anyway.

Between 98 and 95 I'd stick with 95 as the higher octane is a denser product and really only suitable for fuel injection.

I'd use 95 which is what I do use in my 2000 ZX9r,there's a notice on the tank to the effect that 95 is the minimum that the engine is designed for.

Try a tank of 95 and reset your trip mileage counter then do the same with a tank of 98 and see the difference,my van went from 320k's on 95 to 280k's on 98 and as a van driver I am aware of the savings.

After shelling out the best part of 18k for my bike I'm happy to spend the extra $2 a tankload for decent fuel, but then mines a weekend toy so it's not a big deal costwise.

Be careful re your warranty though on newish bikes. It could be a get out of gaol free card for Kawasaki (because we all know what they're like on warranty claims )

With your bike Stereo, efi it would be advisable to go for the minium octane rating which is 95 - but thats only the cheaper premium. no need to go for the 98octane stuff like the bp ultimate or voltex gold etc.

91 will just use more of it as the EFI should notice the difference (i believe). not really good for it, but you can if you want.

You should only use 91 ron on your carbied 250. using premium doesnt actually change anything. unless it's tuned for it.

Experimented with a few different fuels in my GT550 recently on a long trip. Found the following:
BP91 (standard ulp) 14km per L, pinged like buggery
BP98 16.2km per L, no pinging
BP95 16.4km per L, light pinging
Mobil 96 (I thought it would be 95 but servo dude said 96) 16.4km per L, no pinging
Shell 95 16km per L, pinged like buggery
Caltex Vortex (98) 16km per L, pinged too.
Best choice with my bike would be either Mobil PULP or BP PULP, followed closely by BP95. This was two up touring with heavily loaded trailer.

My zxr250 runs solely on 91 RON, and there is no need to run anything more in it, They are designed to run on that type of fuel, just Normal Regular Unleaded... does the knock sensor on an 05/06 vintage 636 pick up any difference between 95 and 98, if so wat are the benefits of running 98 over 95 or is there none ?

I believe on a efi bike running 98 would make a difference as the EFI would notice the different rating of the fuel. however, someone will correct me there. but there should not really be any major performance differences between it.

it would have the same effect as cars i would assume, prob just some more mileage due to the slight performance gain..

get this tho, tassie is so far aahead of its time, we only just got 98 RON down here about 2 months ago!! yeah $1.48

good thing just happened tho fuel was sitting at a nice $1.41 for ULP, then another company decided to open up now fuel is down to $1.25c for ULP!!
YAY! $18 for a full tank!

There's actually a little sticker on top of the 10's tank that says, nothing less than a 95 octane. So that pretty much narrows it to premium.

As for bang for buck, I wouldnt put anything other than BP PULP in mine

running 1 tank of 98 every couple of tanks wouldn't hurt to help clean the injectors
