how did i miss this thread
went for a ride today on my 98 ZX9R with the mrs on her 02 954RR
i can say with absolute certainty that the blade's chassis is leaps and bounds ahead.... however it should have been fitted with a steering damper from the factory (mrs has a bling scotts rotary damper on hers)... although i can appreciate my bike having absolutely no need for a damper... with the throttle about 3/4 open in first and the front wheel only just touching the tarmac it will headshake lightly but thats it... let go of the throttle and its business as usual.. hers was hella flighty before the damper but now its well.... perfect

really feels like a 600, so easy to throw around
my suspension isnt set up 100% perfectly, but hers is just so much more compliant than mine... we went for a blast up to mt macedon and the roads are pretty bumpy and for the first time ever i just couldnt quite keep up with her

tho my bike wasnt giving me any confidence to try to
hers is fairly stock with a BMC filter and micron slip on with no tuning... definately has a bit more go below about 4-5k, and perfect throttle response everywhere (actually a little bit too good when cracking the throttle open a touch from fully closed really upsets the bike, maybe a PC3 could help)...
in a straightline how ever my bike definately has more from 5k to redline, but mines not stock with a full akra system, +4 advancer, demeshed air filter, jetkit tuned to perfection by yours truely and +1 on the rear sprocket... tho my power is very linear, just gets stronger and stronger with the revs where hers has quite a punch down low thanks to the valve in the exhaust, the extra 55cc and EFI... which means her power is more usable out of corners... how ever on a long sweeper i feel i can put more power down on my bike than on hers, even kick the rear out a bit

maybe its the long wheelbase helping out there
the 954 has a much better turning circle too

and feels about 100kg lighter when your pushing it
hard to say which bike is comfier too, the short reach to the bars on the 954 is nice, long journeys i get some pain in my lower neck on the 9R... my seat is definately softer, but hers is a little wider...
in terms of vibrations mine seems a little more smoother..
certainly no trouble starting a bike with EFI either, almost had to push start the ninja today after sitting dormant since friday

but the tune isnt quite perfect yet (choke rarely helps cold starts) and my battery is a bit average
oh and hers is only about 10% as crashed as mine
edit: forgot about the brakes.... once again, worlds apart... the discs on the 954 are huge, and with about 20kg less weight they really work well... where mine, even with braided lines i cant get a firm feeling from the lever no matter how much i bleed them... but to be fair, my discs desperately need to be machined, very glazed and burnt
