99" zx6 question

Sun Aug 20, 2006 11:11 am

Can you put crash knobs on a 99 zx6?? If so, Were do crash knobs fit on a 99 zx6. Is their a spot on the fairing of the bike or do you have to drill a hole in the fairing to put them in.
Also what price would should I pay for crash knobs, I got 2 quotes one for $350, and one for $135 if they fit a 99,but this guy said he thinks 99 zx6's dont take crash knobs :?
Can somebody clarify this for me please
Cheers

You can get ones that mount to the upper fairing bracket, so no drilling.
Not as strong as ones that mount to your engine mounts but I had em on my 9 and they did there job...

They's guys have some mini ones damn cheap.

There are two ways you can go about this. Cheaper knobs screw into the upper fairing hole. I know from personal experience these don't work that great and won't save your fairing and don't stop your casings grinding on the deck. R&G make race spec knobs for G series 6R's. If you buy direct you are looking at $250, compared to $900 for a lower fairing from Kawasaki. In order to mount these you need to make a 25mm hole in the fairing and a bit of the expence of them is because they come with a new water bottle. With these ones fitted if you do come off the knobs will stop the casings grounding unless you are sliding long enough the grind half of them off and at that speed that'll be the last of your worries. Cheers guys . so I'm presuming that the upper fairing knob is more for just for an accidental drop in the garage and the lower fairing knob is more for that if you come off riding around a corner and sliding across the ground.

These one look good for the price, can you get longer than 2" or is that the max you would/can go.

Those are what I've got at the moment. As they mount on the deep hole on the fairing only the wide bit actually sticks out. It was actually the bobbin that wrote off fairing as when I went down the mounting bolt bent and smash the area around the upper mounting point the rest of the fairing got scuffed up and one straight split that can be welded. That is why once I've got the cash I'm getting some R&G's as I plan on doing more track days.
