When I first moved into my apartment with my g/f of 3 years at the time, I was paying pretty much everything but as her wage went up, we both talked and agreed that it would be better to work things out proportionally (i.e we worked out the difference of our wages as a percent and then I paid the bigger section and she paid the smaller one of everything).

It worked well and we never had any problems - I suggest that if you're in a relationship, however, you're a team and making a move like this is something that shouldn't go without consideration..! That being said, each have your own money accounts that your wage goes into. Before you move in, organise a joint account that $x (determined above) + 5-10% of each of your wage goes into each week and just pump that amount in each week. This way, you'll have money aside there for when the bills arrive and when there's a 'lull' in bill periods, you can use the rest for home furnishings, going out to dinner etc and not ever worry about 'who has to pay' :)

If she's working, I'd expect her to pay a section unless my wage was freakin awesome, in which case I'd be happy to provide 100% for her.

Okay. The BF bought his house earlier this year, and we both moved in.
He earns A LOT more than me, and the mortgage is in his name, so he pays that and the stuff like insurance and rates.
I pay for the food, do all the washing, cooking, ironing sort of stuff and look after the animals, and contribute an amount towards other bills when due.

Other than that, we pay for our own stuff.

Mind you, I rented for 3 years and he was always over, expecting his laundry done or food to eat, and never offered me any money towards rent or utilities. :?

Above post is pretty much what we decided.

I pay for the house/water/rates/insurances, and contribute 50$ to groceries.

She is going to pay for cable internet/electricity/and the rest of the groceries/other bills.

When I was younger (and sillier) I lived with my BF who owned a house. The agreement was that I didn't pay him rent, but we went halves on all joint bills ie food, electricity, phone bill, contents insurance, etc, and we each paid our own bills, ie petrol, car rego & insurance, I paid all my uni costs, he paid all costs associated with the house, etc. We also seperately paid for entertainment expenses, unless we were doing something together, then we would usually take turns shouting each other. We also agreed that in exchange for rent or board, I would do the laundry, vacuuming & clean the bathroom, all other housekeeping duties we shared.

Just because you paying the mortgage & may have title in your name
dosent mean shit if it turns nasty.. she's entitled to a percentage of
your shit (as determined by the Courts).. married or not.

Once shes moved in, & has been there for defined period, its a defacto
relationship & she can will have same rights to claim your shit as if she
was married to you.
