Given the runaround

Tue Aug 08, 2006 3:25 pm

I just bought a new mobile outright (K800i) from an Optus store near work. I am a Vodafone customer and wanted to remove the crappy Optus logo and pics from my phone, so...

I called Optus and they tell me to call Sony Ericsson, so....

I call Sony Ericsson and the guy there tells me that because the phone was branded for Optus, they cannot remove the logo. I argued that surely it was just software that could be removed and he said it wasn't, then I kept at him and he finally admitted that yes, it is removable BUT if I was to do so, it would void my warranty :x

I find this just ridiculous! Has anyone had this problem before and what are the solutions??

I bought a K750i on contract with Vodaphone and not only do you get all the Vodaphone bullshit with logos and stuff as software but even the phone had a Vodafone logo, personally I just live with it.

Probably new firmware available on the internet but that would highly likely void your warranty as the S-E bloke tld you.

Colette, why didn't you just buy it from Vodafone? Is it too late to take it back?

As logical as that would have been (I know), it was cheaper at Optus and they are closer to my workplace. I probably can't take it back now.

Ring one of the service places... offer them $10

Taking a phone back after you've bought it...

Sorry, but that is funny...I bought a phone that developed a faulty display the same week I bought it...I couldn't return it or get a new one, but I could take it somewhere, leave if for 2-4 weeks and have it fixed free of charge (minus the plan time I would have lost not having a phone)...I ended up having a faulty display for 3 years...

Mind you, if anyone is interested we have a fairly new camera phone nokia here at work that the head honcho doesn't want any more. going cheap.

Apparently nokia's aren't dog proof...

when you buy's these outright of a store it should have no logos or software connecting the mobile with a network, only because when time comes around to update you will have trouble with the logos(like you at moment).and also trouble when updating software from the net(eg Dial tones /wallpapers etc etc)
When you buy of the net they come fresh no logo s etc etc and buy from a (ebay)power seller of course.
Thats if you buy of Ebay/ But there is a lot of other shops to buy from.

Take it back if you dont like it 8)

Cougs
I got my (2) K500i's from Telstra and they came with Telstra stuff inc
screen logo and a Telstra decal on the back (which got ripped)
I visited the Sony web site where it gave me all this software and stuff
and hints how to customise my phone
and NOTHING about voiding warranty

The Telstra logo went..I now have a ZX7r as my logo :D

i wouldnt worry about your warranty.
if the time ever comes that you need it you can rest assured that they will make it as difficult as possible to actually get it repaired.
my phone is less than 12 mnths old and is stuffed.
i called the store and they say it will take them 6 weeks to get it taken care of.
i tried nokia care. called all their sydney numbers and it either rings out or am put on hold indefinately.
i emailed all their offices and NO response.

Then i thought stuff it i will just PAY someone else to fix it so i call a repair store and they say they are not aloud to touch them and they are only aloud to send them off to nokia themselves.

Needless to say i am very pissed off and this is my LAST ever nokia
