ZXR 250 Fairings

Postby v8-vh » Sun Jul 09, 2006 6:24 pm

Hey all, I have still not got the fairings for my bike. all up around 1200 bucks !!!!
I am wondering if anyone knows where I can get at least some second hand ones.
I work at a fibre glass place now. So even if I can get someones old fairing and make a mould from them I would be very happy ! And might even knock up a few spare sets (since I pay stuff all for the materials)
I am mainly after the top fairing, lower, and mudguard bit , well basically, anything fibre glass ! lol

you could do two things,
the cheaper option will be to buy fibreglass fairings premade.
if ur in melbourne, i'd recomend vic motorcycle wreckers in heidelburg.

but if you want plastics, be prepared to pay through the teeth. i got a top and right hand fairing for about $300 each from Recycled Motorcycles in lilydale. 03 9735 4433. they will post them out if need be. but i would recommend going to check out the quality.
you can't get new plastics cos they're a grey import.

but update ur bio with ur city location so we know where u are.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Done, Im near brisbane

I went to a few wreckers in moss st, but most are a bit suss
one guy tried to tell me it would cost thousands to fix my bike, then offered to buy the wreck for 50 bucks lol, wanker.
He let slip of the frame straightener he uses and i paid him a visit, 900 later and all i have left to do is the fairing !

the list from memory is

visor with tint
front guard
guage bracket
top fairing
2 sides
rear cowel
... cant remember the rest, ill have to go look at the bike again
just fiddly bits that broke in the stack.
im up for a new fuel tank lock, if I cant get a key cut. etc

hmmm im not sure how much it all costs, i know the materials arent cheap, but i would get them alot cheaper.
making the moulds can be tricky I havnt done it yet but I have watched someone do it.

Even if the side is all scratched i think u can just bog it up nice n smooth and it will make a nice mould. its early days i am learning off a mate at work.
but things like that are what i would like to do.
are the top fairings 1 or 2 peice? things like bonnet scoops have to be cut in half to make a mould of them otherwise you cant get it out !
definately a project I am interested in . I even found a set of fairings off something in a junk pile the other day !

Its pretty minor scratches! U didn't asnwer wether u wanted ZXR A or C fairings ???
I got A, the fairing from basically the fuel tank down wards is 1 peice, each side, then that connects to the head light assembly which sits in front of the cluster.. i also have the duck tail in GOOD COND, and front wheel cover!

if u made fibreglass fairings for the zx2r C model, i would purchase a set for my bike. let me know what happens because i am 100% sure i would buy some if the price is right.

yeah iv got one of the rear fairings at work all smoothed up, and we are just sussing out how to go about making the mould off it.
If I cant get anything done on it at work im taking it home to do it.
Its going slow but getting there ! my car is a priority at the moment as I need to get it on the road but I will definately keep updating as I go
