I got my stocks from a Holden dealer...who services HSVs
who ordered it in... and it ain't cheap
from memory 'bout $55 for 5 litres (trade)
its also available now and then from Autobarn..for about $65
I believe Mobil distributors sell it in 20 litre drums
(which is what i should have got)

and mate
my apologies its Mobil 1 10w-30 that I have
..in the gold container

cheers
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

Before: Motul 5100 at $50
After: Valvoline XLD Premium at $17

Difference: none whatsoever :D. In fact the valvoline is SJ grade which the manual recommends. Motul is SG.

Andy that sounds dangerous.

Actually a mate of mine that use to have a zzr1100, use to use $10 oil and change it every 3000-5000kms and the good old zzr1100 did about 175,000Km. It was ridden and given a bit of stick daily.

i was told you can't use Car Grade oil ie: SM
in bikes cause the clutch uses the same oil as the motor and it slips with car grade oil!

Does anyone read the posts before or just the last one ?

DO NOT USE CAR OIL !!!
Your gearbox will "crush" the long chain polymers (?????)
Your clutch will kill it too. Bike oils are that for a reason....
Mobil1 MAY make more "power" for the motor but it will frig it quick.

As to grades
Yes temperature will change what you need BUT only if you are a poor mexican where temp drops below 0 (well cold enough to make the oil "thick"). BUT once the bike starts it is going to get a DAMN sight hotter than 35 degrees
A lot of the modern sporties reccomend too light an oil but.
Make "power" (no drag) and be up top quick (but most oils now have additives that "Cling" JUST for the cold startup) but I would seriously question the longevity of an "old" engine run on it.....
As a wise person once said on here (damn i wish I could use the search engine properly) it all depends whether it is a 10w with modifiers to make it act like a 50w when hot or a 50w with modifiers to make it act like a 10w when cold...
Dont know if it was true but I seem to remember he knew what he was talking about.

And yeah this is all before but this is only for the next person that only reads this before posting ....

We'll see  I reckon alot of ppl. are just being 'had' by oil manufacturers

My bike almost done 95,000k, 45,000k which are mine 8) and out of that the 30,000k was using the Valvoline. No mechanical problems whatsoever, except a faulty coil (may be due to the loooong polymer between throttle and the nut  )

Before that I have run a small bike for 10 years on Mineral SG- graded oi with no problems too.

There are car oil you need to avoid tho, namely Castrol GTX due to friction modifier. Olive oil is not so good as well, although they smell better than Motul

There is a guy in Rocky "makes" his own oils
Bimrose Lubricants http://www.bimlube.com.au/
Supports Daniel Petey the Gladstone Dragracer that won the national title.

He is VERY open about all this stuff (bike oil, car oil etc.)
I havent spoken to the guy personally as I still throw banana skins in my olive oil to raise the viscosity....
And you have to go for the late season final crush NOT the virgin.
The belief that because its a virgin you cant f*k it is an old wives tale mate...

Virgins don't lube well that's why you need synthetics

I bet there are heaps of Harley owners who insists on using Harley Oil:

tanyathecheeky wrote:They're looking at (or starting to produce) 0/5w oils, designed for the way the manufacturers are making the bikes now
He didn't recommend 50w for anything but harleys :D

Also if you use your bike at the track frequently you should use either the 300v or 7100, they both have higher levels of Esther and other goodies :)

yea..but remeber race oils are dropped every 100km or so..so they are thin as shit, and dont give protection for very long...

i use the weight that is specified by manufacturer...
heres a good person to ask..Tim got 208,000km out of his gpx..ask him what he uses...
