Headstock stand

We got a front headstock stand with the group buy, and went to use it yesterday for its first 'real' use (we've tested it out, worked out how to get the bike up and down, etc).

We needed to remove the '04 Z750's front wheel, as we were going to take it somewhere to get a brake disc straightened.

However, once the bike is up on the headstand, the side bars of the stand run down parallel to the front forks, preventing access to the front axel.

This sort of negates the purpose, doesnt it? Use the headstock stand so that you can work on the forks, but you cant remove the front wheel?

Any ideas?

never heard of that
all the headstock stands I have seen have a length adjustable arm
so that the down tubes on the stand are well away from the
axle/brake/caliper/fork tubes

i dont think u really have to. They should be able to access the front axle no problems

Unless the rear stand is 4 feet off the ground it really wouldn't effect the angle enough to stop access to the front axle. So it sounds like the stand is poorly designed, or is it fitted correctly or the stand assembled in the correct manner? Just checking.....not suggesting you are an idiot or anything, but I think all of us at some point have assembled things in error .

Other than that, it sounds like the stand is not suiting the intended usage!!

My description of the problem earlier was a little off, although the problem still exists.

The headstand doesnt run parallel with the forks - however, the point where the headstand sides cross the forks is right over the axel.

As far as I can see, the headstand is non-adjustable - the only putting together was bolting the wheel-base end to the upright section end, and inserting the appropriate spigot.

mmmm I see your point!! Makes it difficult to do tyre changes in between practice sessions for sure!!!! Bugger!!! Perhaps that won't be the model I look at then!!! The rear stand that matchesthat is the one I bought, and just to really piss you off, it's great!!!!

wot ud need to do is pull out axel bolt, then raise front & slide wheel out..bit of a pain in the ass tho i reckon... and prob hard to do without damaging sumthin..

looking at the stand.... from a geometrical point of view, if that stand was completely straight shouldnt the front axel be accessible...

Not sure if you can adjust that at all....

I was going to suggest that as it works for mine, but this looks a lot closer the wheel / forks.
Mine also has an adjustable top arm angle so the position can be altered and it gives more clearance under the front fairing... cost a lot more too...

What a crappy design...
