636 Rear Shock Factory Settings

Can anyone tell me what the factory settings are for the rear shock of a '03 636?

i.e.

Pre-load, rebound, compression

it should be in the manual under rear shock adjustment.
Or dont you have a manual? If not I'm sure someone will have a look for ya.

I have an '05 636 shock on my Z1K (I have settings for that) A collegue just bought an '03 636 shock for his and we're trying to track down the settings from a Zx6r owener who may (as you point out) have the manual.

Hi Mick,

there are quite a few 03/04 owners here hopefully one can help, otherwise the settings were in a PB mag from 03 which I'm pretty sure I have at home, I can pm them to you tongiht if there is no answer earlier.

Found a soft copy of the '03 zx636 service manual in one of the threads...

...so I have the settings thanks.

Don't fret. In the bling stakes here's the items i recommend....


...EBC HH brake pads (serious stop power), braided hoses (Goodridge if possible)...(more serious stop power), zx636 rear shock (OMG do this mod, now, now NOW!) all the rest is bling! LOL

shockie is in already :) I just haven't been able to go on a ride to test it in between getting the flu and the bloody rain :(

I have found the steering damper to make a difference, bike feels a lot more stable :) And having a higher screen helps too :)


Do the brake pads really make that much difference? I have read of people doing it but as I don't ride it hard i didn't think it would matter? I also wasn't going to worry about the braided lines, they tell me it's not worth it unless you do trackdays? If i did it it would probably be for the bling :D


What tyres you running? I pulled the bridgies off, didn't like them much :(

Okay...636 shock is good.

I can honestly say that EBC HH pads on the front brakes are a serious upgrade. Don't listen to those who say it will knock 10Kkms off your rotor wear because....you won't be riding your current Z1K at 80,000kms!!!

Braided hoses do help when you're on the track (I do this once every 2 months). They help a great deal to prevent fading over the course of the day. (I still recommend a day out at the Californian Superbike School if you can make it)

BMC or K&N is a must if you want your Zed to breath well, pipes are bling (but don't tell everyone I said that!).

I've had the baffles removed so he's breathing ( really love the look of the standard pipes :)), I was planning the filter next service :)

I'd love to get down to do a superbike school, we don't really have a lot avail up here :( QR is the biggest piece of dog poo :( (one of the reasons I don't want to do a track day is that it's boring and bumpy, what a combo :roll: )

I'll have to keep the brake lines and pads in mind, bike's still new (3700km), might get more wear out of the pads before i change them just yet :) I'm pretty cruzy so they're not a big thing for me :D


But i will be calling frozzie tomorrow and ordering a belly pan :)

Still have the stock pipes myself.

Love the heat treated "gold" look. Muzzy's sopund great but little or no difference on the "seat of the pants" performance. There's a a dealer near you that does a great aftermarket system ....: http://www.pipemasters.net/z1000-mo...e-exhausts.html

Pipemasters will also do the heat treated gold look too. ~A$1800 + shipping.

Do the Keith Code Superbike School as soon as you can...


I'm not sure of your definition of cruisy but if you've done the mods you say then you're gonna' want more performance of the Zed...PM me anytime. Sorry Brisbane is a little too far or we could compare rides..

Oh yeah...and don't knock track days. They an really show up the performance gains/limiations of your ride....

...Is Willowbank really that bad? I drove my Porsche around there a few years back and didn't remember it being bumpy?

Diablos (not corsas) front and rear.

I'm on my second set rear and still love them. Sticky in the dry and predictable in the wet, what more could you want.

...not cheap of course...
