97 ZX7R colour scheme

I sold the GPX250R today.

I bought a 97 ZX7R last Monday week from Sydney (it was $4000). I drove up there with a ute. Looked at the bike...rode it round, loaded it up and drove home. I bought it off a guy who said he used to know or ride with people from KSRC. His name is Brendan Egan. The bike was originally registered in Queensland so I guess he rode with Queensland people. Dunno what his user name was on here though. Anyway, I got the thing roadworthied on saturday and registered on Monday and insured on Tuesday.

Funny thing with the insurance, I'm with Arista and they said with this model bike, I can only ride it to work three days a week and I have to keep it in a locked garage.

So the point of the post (so as not to get in trouble for just chatting ) is; The bike is what I'd call a "beach bike" cause it looks like it's lived by the ocean and so many of the aluminium parts have some surface corrosion or discolouration (things like pegs etc). Plus the body work is pretty scratched in places and it doesn't help that it fell over while I was trying to put it on the race stand (it's heavier than a GPX it seems). In general the bike is very average to look at. So I started to think about cleaning it up and making it look "worthy".

What I don't like, besides the scratches and dull aluminium bits, is the paint scheme. The front panels and tank are Kawasaki green but the back section is white and purple with purple wheels. (I guess people here know this model paint scheme pretty well)


So does anyone have an opinion on whether the back section and wheels would look better if painted kwaka green? (so a total green bike)

Anyone seen a good scheme they liked for this model of bike? Like to describe it?

Any suggestions for cleaning the faded aluminium bits and keeping them clean/shiny?

Go for the last time they changed the colours on the race bikes
Green with black (tribal?) and a gold Kawasaki over it wicked
There was a yellow and black German model too
Of course the ONLY way to paint them is green with white number plates with a big 4 in them.... or is that just my Gobert fixation ??

Oh and forgot to add for the alloy 1200 grit Wet and Dry sand paper and (put brand here) metal polish.

I was kinda hoping that there might be some miraculous new product on the market that would make the aluminum look descent without resorting to polishing. It's just that the pillion pegs, for example, have so many curves and corners and edges etc, that it makes cleaning or polishing really time consuming.

What about painting or powder coating them? The frames a painted silver colour.

What about a green bike with black wheels?

Green ZX7R's with black wheels and a black frame look nice IMHO!

I have seen all green and they look good too. Nice bike whatever you paint it! They benefit greatly from raising the rear ride height....considerably, without much in the way of nervousness as a result. As anyone who has ridden one will tell you, up to a point they have one of the best front ends in the biking world. It feels so solid.

As for the pegs etc., if you paint the frame or powder coat it black then either black anodised or black powder coated rests would look horn too. If you leave the frame, then it may look better cleaned up or polished.

Would think you would still have to get the corrosion off it first but
I spose you could acid dip or something before powder coat / 2 pack ?

i know i've gone and done the nasty on mine by taking the faring off it and butchering the bits and pieces, but seriously, i get a full woody every time i see a nice 7 in black the green is kinda cool (green/white with black wheels), and most of the other schemes look okayish, but you cant beat the solid black look

I painted mine Kwaka green inc wheels and left the silver frame and swingarm. No stickers yet but am going to put number backgraounds on it - more a race bike look. Having said that after the wheels get chipped they will be powdercoated satin black and will have green wheel tape on them - probably powdercoat the frame/swing arm/subframe satin black at the same time. The fairing decals on daves bike look real good on green to. Go surfing looking for pictures - you'll be amazed what you find.

you ppl don't watch enough late night infomercials.
CLR is great for corosion. just dip the pegs in it for 5 min. then wipe it away. easy.

as for colour scheme. i painted my zx2 in the same scheme as greenymeany's 7. looks horn.

then again, why be limited to OEM colour schemes????
