How does that rate against the other bikes of the time?

For example one of these?

Not sure about all of that..
I certainly agree on the weight issue as the zx6 was about 185ks and the zxr was about 203 kg... and the extra HP of the 750 is countered by the extra weight.
The forks on the 750 are as good as anything else at the time and if your going to revalve and have em set up, they will be fine for anything except top level racing. It also has a ride height adjuster, unlike the 6, so this can be fiddled with without the expense of a new shock or bracket.
The bike that was coming second in the New Era class in NSW is a completely stock zxr750. No fork work, no shock work, a slip on, jet kit, braided lines, clip ons, race fairings, other than that it was stock.
It use to belong to RobRacer on here.
Paddo, another member on here, road it at the Eastern Creek race and was doing 1:45 / 46's on it only beaten by an ex 250 GP bike...
But, at the end of the day, it always comes down to the rider...
and remember what class we're talking about here.
Either bike is fine and how fast you wanna go comes down to how much you wanna spend... oh, and how good you are..

I have a 93 ZXR750 that I race in New Era 2. Either ZXR or 600 are both OK. The 600 would have advantages at Wakefield were the ZXR is the better option for Eastern Creek. With the ZXR, I always wanted one so I got it. I think it's personal preference. The ZXR is clearly a better basis if you want to be racing for the win. And even in NE2 that means investing time and money. If it's about doing your personel best and improving yourself, who cares what you ride.

Adjustable ride height is certainly an advantage on the ZXR. I was scraping the footpegs at Eastern Creek and have raised it now for Oran Park on the weekend. I will see how it goes.

By the way, ZX7R's are not eligible.

Bummer 'zilla... Guess I will have to wait a year for the ZX7R then....

And Stereo the bike shown was not even in the same class mate... it was a Ho... Hooo...Hooon.... you know one of those wing things....

Certainly a better bike than a 93 CBR600, but no better than a 1995 CBR600. But better than a 1995 YZF600 for sure.

Or i could just forget plans to race and fix my 636 trackies engine, get the rear shock revalved and resprung and keep playing on track days.

If i foucussed on tuning and set up and not goofing around with a stock bike on stock settings I'd prolly get faster.

I did do some sums, if i brought a road going 95 ZXR600 and set it up for track with:

Bike $4500
Glass $ 500
Slicks $500
Pipe $400
Tyre warmers $600
Generator $1400
Rear sets $600
Susp set up $1200
Misc tune/jet $400

Thats already over $10k if the engine doesn't need a rebuild.

eeeep!!!!

Right now the bikes i buy allow me to have my fun and then when its time to move em on i loose very little money if any.

I like that.

A race bike is a very different proposition, once the money is spent ITS GONE! :(

Budget

Lets do my sums.

93 ZXR750 $4200
Taking lights, indicators, etc. off and plugging headlight opening $0.
Sorry a correction silicon to seal holes $2. Plastic was "sourced" from a large dog food container.
Race glass is not necessary but will probably set you back at least $800. I bought a bike with a bit of cosmetic damage so I don't care.
Almost new Pilot Powers were on the bike $0. They should be good for a whole session. Next year maybe Pilot Race when I am good enough?
If you go for slicks you would probaly need a second pair of rims (and brake rotors) for rain tyres.
Pipe - already had one on it $0
Tyre warmers Only bought them recently $400. Did not have any at the Barry Sheene Event in March.
Generator. In NE2 the bike has to be able to start under its own power $0. Electricity is supplied in the pits for tyre warmers.
Rear sets. The ZXR has ride height adjuster so dial it up. $0
Suspension is standard. $0
Braided lines front and new brake pads. $300.
Race stands front and rear $400

Total $ 5300

Additional
PCRA Club membership $60
Race licence $250
Race meeting fee approx. $200 per meeting.

Thats why it is important to start out with the right bike. To get the suspension, motor, etc. on the ZX6 up to ZXR level will probably cost you what you have calculated.

I will be at Oran Park this Sunday at the PCRA Meeting. Happy to see you. Look for a black ZXR with number 14 on it. But don't expect too much!

Rear sets $600 (Jack up plates? $150?)
Susp set up $1200
Misc tune/jet $400

No drama's at all....

I have a 93 model ZX750 and have rode many ZX600's. The ZX6 did not get better that the 7's until the 636 models arrived. My ZXR has over 70,000km on the clock and still pulls like a 16 year old boy. They are a bit heavy but very stable on the road and a good looking one still looks great. Hands down a ZXR750 every time.

Just so's we don't allow too much emotion to cloud our judgement I maight just share some stats with you...........

1993 ZX750- L1. Measured at the time @ 100RWHP(that's an absolute knacker shatterer that example as most didn't make this much) weight 205 (I'm being kind here too it's more like 215) equates to a power to weight ratio of @ 2.05 kgs/HP yeah????

1995 ZX6R-F1. Measured at the time @ 92 RWHP (thats a dud most made more) and weighing in at a spritely 185kgs, equates to a power to weight ratio of 2.01kg/hp Yeah????
