Changed from a 16 to a 15 tooth front gear

Tue Oct 05, 2004 4:52 pm

DAMN.

I never would have believed one tooth could make soooo much difference...

I've been told that it *cough* power wheelies† *cough* in second... :D

They were only small ones tho

Sounds cool, Im going down on the fron AND up on the back when i need new sprockets, power wheelies in first would be cool, ZX7's are a little heavy in the front for good ones.

Cool

I enquired at my local Kwaka dealer and said it would be beneficial to do that as would increase torque and take offs etc and would be good if you are commuting.

However the downside is it willl put ur speedo out and add more k's to the odometer than you have actually done.

Have you noticed a noticeable difference in speed indication?

I am also thinking about doing it if I have the bike long enough to do a chain and sprocket replacement.

I've only noticed a small increase in RPM. At 100 kph with standard gear it sits at 4,000 rpm, with one tooth down, it sits around 4,200 rpm (rough guess).

I calculated that the difference in speed readout is ~+3kph and on a 100km trip, it'll read 104km...

The extra torque available is amazing, even in 6th. :D

Guys, if you want to do it, don't wait. I got a non genuine from Melbourne Kawasaki (Cosways) for about $16 a few years back.
Just need a 26 or 27mm(?) socket a long breaker bar.
Remember that any earlier bike that have a cable driven speedo from the front wheel, the speedo's accuracey won't change.

C'mon, just do it, it's only the cost of a tank of fuel.

Unfortunately my 9r speedo as is Flakey's I think is read off the front sprocket so it will alter the speed/distance read.

However +/- 3k's is alright.

I've found the ZX9R will only wheelie if you want it too... :D

Which can be usefull for quick get aways when wheelies are bad... 8)

BTW - Wheelies are 'evil' here in W.Aus - apparently increase the road toll incredibly, so I can not encourage these silly stunts...

Well I wish there was a wheelie school.

And if this combination helps me acheive greatness it will be done.

Always done little ones but none to write home about.

Although I don't endorse stunts of these kind I want to be able to pull a decent mono to show off to my two boys!!! :) however dont know how the wife will like it!! might lose the "wife endorsed you can have a motorbike!!!" but what the hell it will look spectacular if I dont flip it :D

I have read about ten different threads on different forums but if it makes it easier without having to clutch it etc sounds like the go, and for the quicker take offs as well.

I know my previous rant doesnt sound very mature however wheelie's have a special place in my heart!!! and relatively speaking though I am 28 I am still cursed with a 15yo mind haha!!

Wheelies ROCK... (but they still scare me - prolly a good thing)...

A mate has wheelied my 9 upto 5th gear... (6th was too fast, apparently  )

He then gets on his 12R and does a 4th gear stand up...

I'm going from 40 teeth in the rear to 43 teeth..

Not gunna bother with the front.. Figure for commuting in the long term i should get a few more k's out of the chain..
