Yeah I don't mind the standard look but it weighs a feckin ton. With the lighter weight I've shed 1 second off my lap to the coffee shop... :wink:

Thanks all.. I've pretty much decided on the akra.

I'll get the air filter, but will skip the power commander - it's $700 more!! Also, the Kawasaki guy told me it wasn't necessary unless I planned to race it.

hmmm, I'd do a bit more research into that....... last thing you wanna do is have it running lean or something ..... good way to burn out the valves!

This is the latest advice I've gotten from a friend:

Just get the pipe. You won't get any performance gains but you will get the sound without adversely affecting the performance. If you get the air filter as well you well get a performance gain when the engine is spinning at above 10000 rpm but you will sacrifice power and rideabilty at anything below 10000 rpm. How often do you ride at above 10000 rpm? If you want to get the full benefit of the pipe and the air filter you need a power commander at least. So if you want to do it in stages, get the pipe first. then get the air filter and the power commander later. Honestly, unless you're planning on getting into some really hard road riding or track days, you won't really notice the air filter and pc.

regardless, of what you do, as soon as you put the aftermarket pipe on, you WILL lose low down power.... an example is, I went for a ride with one of the guys from the shop where i got my bike from....he was on the demo which had a slip on and nil other mods, ie no PC, no aftermarket filter, and mine is stock standard, and he could not stay with me until we were on the move. He himself was quite suprised at the level of difference when it came to standing starts.

Really, if you want it just for the bling factor, or want to use the bike on the track then go for it. But really, you will lose low down torque / power. Although the akra seems to be one of the best for limited loss in the lower end of the rev range, but.... it still loses power!

I personally love the sound / look of the aftermarkets..... but would rather not get the pipe until I had put enough away to do the mod properly.....which after doing a track day will be probably never! As all my spare $$$ will be on things I can put to good use on the track! ;)

I know that I can't possibly use all the power that my bike generates now, let alone require more..... I am more keen on setting the handling side of things before going for power gains! ie. steering damper, getting the suspension set up properly..... all the things that will make my bike handle better with the power that it has, rather than getting more power....when I can't, and probably never will, outride the bike!

Hmm.. thanks swabio. I'm not sure if I should bother now. I wanted it for the noise and because I think it looks better. I don't mind not gaining much power, but I definitely don't want to lose any.
