Higher profile handling?

Wed May 03, 2006 12:18 pm

Need some new hoops for my '98 zx6r and can get a good deal on some Diablo Corsas but the sizes are 120/70 180/55. Std is 120/60 and 170/60. Just not sure what effect the changes in size will have on the handling and once they are on the bike its too late.

yeah, i also would like to know if i changed from a 190/50 17 to a 190/55/17 if it would be any different...

generally a skinner or higher tyre
makes it easier to tip the bike in

for my money I would try and keep the std front profile
and the 180/55 rear sounds like an oddball for the 6
and maybe a tad wide for my liking ( a 170/55 would be ok)

J-models run a 120/70 and a 180/55 on the exact same rims, with the exact same chassis dimensions.

The fatter rear might slow the steering a smidge, but that's nothing that can't be dialled out with the suspension settings...

Going from a 190/50 to a 190/55 will make it turn in faster but going from side to side is a little harder with the higher profile.
