i think that mobile 8000 is the best. Not too keen on optimax.

Sweet, there's a BP on my route home, looks like it wins & it's usually listed on the cheap price watch site

I have heard of people having trouble with it but can honestly say neither of us have had any problems, then again our bikes are ridden regularly, ie more than one per week

my brother uses optimax in his R6 (carbie) and has never had a problem, i think thats because he rides his bike (hard) just about everyday.
When I got the zzr600 3 1/2 years ago i started using BP pulp and the thing bunged up (it had also not been used for some time b4 i bought it and the plugs were f%&*d, they picked that up during the $450 service at City Yamaha > NOT! #%&*) , my mechanic told me to stop wasting money it's not jetted and doesn't need it.
Going back to Mica9r's problem once i had the shims (v/v clearances) done (and new o-rings in the carbies) @36000km it ran soooo much better and spins out to 13K+ rpm sweetly (gave me another 15-20kph at the top > 240kph indicated on secret test track). I ride the old girl at least 4 days a week (especially now with juice at $1/ltr), and not a problem. I use BP only because its closest to home.

used it once when it first came out...as most of us did (bloody advertising)
It glazed the plugs (std NGK's) and caused a misfire in the Gpx
so
I replaced the plugs, emptied the tank..into the SS
and never used it since on the bike.
The SS thrives on it...but it's too bloody expensive in a GenIII
to use all the time... (at 1 litre per 4 km!)
so for the bike
I use all the other PULPS (Mobil BP Caltex)..no problem
BP usually..nearest servo..cheaper too

it is also interesting that a mate of mine Dave (yeah another Dave.. )
who has an early ZXR750 ..had the same problem a bit after I did.
I saw his plugs after they came out..they were covered in a whitish
greyish very hard substance..you chipped it off
and the electrode gap was filled with it!
and Dave rides HARD..barely outta 2nd around town
and he's a bit of a naughty boy..outta town when it comes to watching the
speed limit........NOT like me hehe
so
not really sure about Optimax
btw..neither bikes were touched (rejetted or adjusted) before using Optimax...just fill the tank!

Is the Optimax in NSW.from a different refinery???

I dont think its any different in NSW. I wont use it. Ive seen many bikes affected by Optimax. When I was working in the workshop, a lot of people would call saying their bike wasnt running right all of a sudden and the first question I asked them was if theyd filled up recently. A large percentage of them had which was usually the problem. I also saw a lot of spark plugs affected, and although I never saw it, mechanics had seen damaged engines from it too.

The funny thing was the owners resistance to empty the tank of the bad fuel because they didnt want to throw out a full tank of fuel. Weirdos.

I got a bad tank of fuel once on the ZRX and had smoke eminating from the pipe even when the engine was switched off, but still hot.

BTW - Kawasaki do not recommend the use of Optimax in their bikes.

i keep away from the optimax stuff - i find i get a little less oomph with the stuff in my tank compared to caltex vortex.. tho if i *really* have to i'll willingly fill up (in order) with mobil 8000, ampol's hi octane stuff (cant remember the name), BP ultimate..
ive had a best of 290km out of a tank of caltex going two up at well over 150 most of the time..
and my '02 9 goes fine when cruising along in 4th at 60, a little low in the rpm and doesnt grumble even when in 6th.

you need to check what gearing youre running - if its stock, then maybe have a look at the vacuum lines under the carbies, i had a stuttering problem in my other 9, a 1998 model, and it turned out to be the vacuum lines coming adrift causing a holy mother of a noise when opening the throttle at low revs

mina, a 9 will go in any gear basically but like any other bike, take it down to 1000rpm in 6th and its bound to be slow gettin up to speed. maybe you need to ride a few more bikes and get a feel for em throughout the rev range? your 7 will more than likely behave differently to a 9.

that figure equates to 25L/100km.
The EPA list fuel cosumption as 13.5L/100km in the city, and 8.5L/100km for the Hwy. That worse than an Aston Martin 'Vantage' or a Lambo.
Think you might need an expert to have a squiz at it.

I get @10kms per litre outta a small block chev 1 n !/2 Speed Auto Dragging 2 ton(old ton too not this Yuppy new Tonne either) of
64 Pontiac around. I have to save up to go for a sunday Drive to the corner shop.
Mate you might wanna check that the Hand Brakes not on, or that the rims have rubber stuff on them.

in 6th at 100kmh, it uses about 9l/100km

but around town.......no way! 13.5l/100km...someones imagination
then again

the driver (me) does tend to use all the 235kw a GenIII offers......
my 60ft times from the lights up the highway are pretty good......
