Installing Dynojet Kits (fixed: thank God.)

Theres a little bit of black engine oil on it on one side, but honestly not enough to affect it as 3/4+ of it is perfectly clean. I did the breathe-thru-it test on a clean bit of it, and it didnt feel clogged at all. the K&N oil is still red on it as opposed to all black with crap and dust.

I might give it a clean sometime soon (i.e. when i can be arsed), but otherwise it seems pretty good to me considering i've done about 5000km on it since i oiled and put the new filter in it.

the filter oil fumes are buggers

Though there is a minor hiccup at lower revs when i go past 1/2 throttle or so when its feeling a bit cold blooded in the mornings, testing after 10 minutes of riding showed that that trait had pretty much vanished once fully warmed up, im sure i can live with it though (just means its a touch rich at that throttle opening when cold).

if the problem is worse when cold and seems to go away when warm, then its a lean problem, sounds like it could be a float level issue... maaaayyyybe a needle height issue

it sounds like at lower revs with low throttle its running ok because the pilot circuit is probably working well, but the more you twist the throttle the more the floats/needles/mains come into it and if one of those isnt set right, you can usually feel the bike slow down a bees dick as you go past about 1/8th throttle

if your 100% sure that your main jets are properly selected then its time to choose the best needle any way.... then have a go at floats, if you can be arsed

Mains feel spot on, and the reason for these "what if's" is the exact reason why i am going to be happy to hand over the bike to someone else and get them to fix the tuning in exchange for a monetary sum.

also as an afterthought, the problem didnt rear its head when it was on the other jet, bear in mind that at this rev range it is barely coming off the pilot onto the straight bit of the needle. Also when i raised the float height a mm before, REGARDLESS of the needle (i was running OEM 105's which are 7-8 under OEM) it was coughing, spluttering, and generally running like a peice of shit. make the floats 1mm lower made a world of difference to othe lower end handling.

So yeah, i am suspecting the needle may need to be lowered to the top clip, but there aint a damn thing i am going to do about it as i can live with this minor problem.

I started typing a reply, then realised i was confusing hell outta myself with symptoms of rich and symptoms of lean. yeah, could well be a touch lean. But then again the pilot/floats has worked flawlessly in this configuration for ages. Cheers though s-s

at the end of the day, if the mains are not properly selected, you will never be able to tune the midrange and bottom end perfectly... the mains do slightly affect the low to mid rev range mixtures, tho not as much as at high revs, but if your mains are a bees dick too lean or too rich, everything else will become a compromise...

you really need to set the mains first, then needles, then floats, then balance, then pilots not sure how detailed the tuning guide that dynojet supply with the jetkit, but factory pro's guide is as good as it gets


i myself have been having issues where the mains seem to be perfect, good strong top end and midrange is nice but just cant get it to accept full throttle at 3k no matter what float height or needle height i use... and also find that after a good 30 mins on the freeway the bike feels sluggish throughout the rev range.... really takes the edge off performance...

conclusion: too rich on the mains! drop it down a size and its much the same up top but suddenly the low and midrange are a lot more compliant!
