i was wondering what winter riding is like and if you get the grit/frost like we do here in NZ. whats the best months for riding :?:

Mate I'm tipping it's a tad less severe than NZ except for perhaps the poor buggers in Tassie.

Best months are probably March to May and Sept to Nov, depending of course on which part you lob into, although we don't really have any "bad" months (except perhaps for the poor buggers in Tassie).

We get the usual mixture of frost etc in winter although black ice is the real bastard to watch for during the colder months. In the hotter bits the heat can be a shit in the middle of summer but again you can pick your days.

I don't think I've ever not ridden because of heat/cold though.

Season does not matter, but rain is.

The coldest I've been was in october (?) for victoria, which saw the screen started to ice. Hottest was a 40 in December which got me dehydrated. These are very rara though.

Best times spring and autumn ! :D

in Vic (won't comment on the other states)
you can ride all year round...summer or winter
and yes, you can ride up the Dividing Range..but it is cold
and you may strike snow/frost
so
stay down along the coast...no problem
our winters are not particularly damp nor cold
avg days are 14-16° but the mornings are cold 7-9° first thing

best months Mar-July Sept-Jan
Feb is usually too hot (40° days) and August is the coldest month
...go skiing instead

hth

cheers

To be honest, I've hardly had to use my frank thomas monsoon suit. In vic it gets used an average of twice a month (through out the year) and I ride to and from work every day all year round. In England it was necessary most of the year, except when it snowed. and yes I have ridden in the snow - a few times. Hell, it snowed the day I purchansed my first sportsbike on the way home from the showroom

Sydney winter riding aint that bad... i mean i dont usually ride in the middle of winter (would rather the heater in the cage).. but wen i did, i'd usually rug up with layers of clothes and jumpers under my jacket, scarf, and thick knee high socks...

Qld is beautiful. As long as ya don't have to ride early in the morning or late at night..

I usually just wear tshirt, jacket, jeans and boots, only occasionally do i have to wear a jumper

Best time of year is winter in the tropics. Twenty six degrees during the day, no rain and the Atherton Tablelands just up the road!
Gillies Highway here I come!
Cheers,
Pete

Speaking as a kiwi who used to ride in NZ...

Mate here in Brizzy there is almost no such thing as cold, 9 months of the year its brilliant riding weather. Winter is cool and dry but summer is fairly hot and sometimes wet.

If you head out for an early morning ride in the middle of winter it can be around 6 degrees when you head out, meaning a jumper under your leathers is in order, but once the suns been up for a couple of hours you need to take the jumper off.

Queenslander!!!!

As long as we don't run out of water its all good.
