Oil filter

Mon Feb 20, 2006 9:42 pm

How much are you paying for oil filter?

I just noticed that it cost me $28 for a ZX6R J1. Ouch !! as compared to my civic filter which is $7 at supercheap.

What are the alternatives ?

I think about $12 for a non genuine one.
apparently they come from the same factory as the genuine ones anyway.

Down here in hobart i am unsure if we have a Kawasaki Dealer, but i was wondering if it is possible to use a GPX or ZZR filter on a ZXR? if i can't buy it diretly from the dealer where else do u guys know of that sell filters ?

any bike shop should be able to get a oil filter in, if you dont, try super cheap or somewhere like that, just give them the part number from your old one

yep i've got one....tim also uses one in the $8K   gpx engine...

my mechanic is the importer of them.........www.bikespares.com.au.

mine has paid for itself now anyway, some of you guys would get good value out of one (oil changes every 5K adds up  )

some of you that change bikes like i change my undies would prolly not benefit unless the new bike used the same filter.

They look good. How do you clean them?? degreaser??

Tue Feb 21, 2006 10:51 pm

I got a few for the ZZR from Walmart for US$3.99 when my father was in the USA, they are Fram brand and even come with new o-rings.

Wed Feb 22, 2006 6:19 pm

for an external type (zx's etc) about $200 odd. internal (zzr11's, zrx's etc) are about $170 odd.

i wash mine in petrol but the manual says you can even use use soapy water amoung other things.

i then dry it with the air gun, reasemble and reinstall.

attached are a few photos of mine when it was being cleaned
