How much does he want for the wilbures shockie compared to trying to ebay a ohlins say ...

Didnt neilp pay 1000 bucks for a rear ohlins landed? was that in aud or us dollars? the ohlins unit would be a better thing longer term and allready sprung to your weight leaving steve the front to do which wouldnt be more than 600bucks.

I can get a Wilbers for a grand without the Hi low. That's sprung to my weight, ex-germany, but the Hi/Lo option sounds too good to pass because I will be doing a lot of riding down the central highways, a lot of riding through the mountains. Too easy to just stop for a smoke and twist a knob to reset my suspension hey . Looking around the net the aprilla boys and others go 50/50 with the quality of the shock. Some say they last better than the ohlins, others say ohlins are better. Neil paid a grand (au) which is around $500 less than the one I'm looking at. A definite saving there. But if I get the man to do the forks He'll throw in the installation of the shock for free. Plus a couple of other extras. I figure I get a complete new setup fully tuned to my weight, professionally installed, blah blah. I know I'm paying here, but the alternative is a substandard shock for a big heavy bike or a hotch potch of front and rear with me doing half, a shop half. I redid the suspension on my VH commodore myself, springs and shocks, and ended up with a dent in the guard, front springs installed upside down "easy to do when there is no markings" and a miss match on the rear springs and shocks
I SCREWED THE POOCH!!! And it left a bad taste in my mouth.

been doing some more ringing around, Rad motorcycle shocky repairs will fully rebuild the factory shock for $170? Is that worth it on a ZZR11 in anyones opinion? Or was the shock such a dud that it's best just to be "off with its head"

Chameleon i've contacted Shock Treatment and Promecha for a quote as well- will post details.

well I'm outa the debate now Bear as I went down to Steve's workshop today and decided to go with him on a front/rear overhaul. Like the girl said, it ain't cheap but top shelf never is. Most of the cost is in the rear-shock as I decided to go with an ohlins KA309 including spring upgrade... $1680 yeah, I could buy another bike for that But what the hell! I wont regret it when I'm in the bumpy mountain corners. All up with a complete fork overhaul "seals etc at my suggestion" I will be up for 2.3 grand. This is all fully fitted of course, just mounting the farken shock would have given me headaches. here's a picture of the mess and some blurb I found on a site selling them.

Hey your taste in fine motorcycle shocks is improving yep i reckon you bike will be floating around the hils in no time.

The remote preload is a good idea you would never get under the back of your bike to adjust it.

thanks bob! its a lot of $$$ and im glad to hear someone agrees with me on doing it.

Well its a lot of coin to throw at a old bike frank but it is nice and straight.

As i said earlier i would be looking for a better price off him cause lets face it he ends up with your dollars in the end and you end up with a fork revalve that sounds a tad expencive.

He said it would take 2-3 weeks for the shock to arrive from Sweden or somewhere? A lot less if they have one to my specs here is au. Will let you know how it goes

I'd be surprised if you didn't feel like you had a brand new bike after that...

by all reports that is the case.

Had my zzr1100 shock rebuilt by RAD. Went from too stiff with no rebound damping to speak of (jack-in-the-box impersonations are not fun at 140) to too stiff with rebound damping. No amount of preload adjustment will soften it up, so it still hates bumps, just doesn't try quite so hard to kill me anymore. Planning the Racetech upgrade at MPE when the finances are available.

Goanna makes you wonder what these japanese techs are thinking when they design these shocks, for the same money or not much more they could design something that absorbs shock and is user freindly rather than something that catapaults the rider 2 foot in the air.

Anyways it keeps the aftermarket guys in a dollar.
