I tried them on and did find them a bit heavy so that's why I went with the X-801... $100 buckes cheaper too...

I personally have, and love, the Shoei X-11, but I got my wife a Nitro 100V and I have used it on occasion and I am suitably impressed with it, I find it comfortable and well ventilated, also the removable liner is a real plus . The visor's are less han 1/2 the cost of a shoei visor also! I think the Iridium one I got for the nitro was around $35 where as my Shoei one was $95-100. I don't find it noisy either. I think they are great value.

Initially when I got the helmet I was just going to grab another Shoei TZ-1 or perhaps the XR-1000, but after reading some rave mag reviews I decided to have a look at them. They fitted my wife well and got it for a bargain, they also come with a really cool lined helmet bag

I wouldn't buy one that doesn't have the double D rings though (anyhting with a mecahnical coupling can fail and will wear).

the double D rings were a priority on the next helmet I bought after the CMS pos that I still have but won't wear, hence the Shoei RF-900 is the current lid.

If you've found a lid you like, (and I assume you've tried one on previously?), have you considered ordering online? Many online places have reasonable prices and can offer delivery in a couple of working days.

*EDIT*, I have a Shoei XR 1000 abd love it. Previous lid as an KBC cheapie and I hated it. After just 18 months of daily commuting it stretched to the point I had to wear a balaclava to stop it moving. It was heavy, noisy and had a low neck line that retricted movement when I lifted my head up. Some of these points I didn't realise until I got the Shoei and realised just how shite the old KBC was.

Most places can order it in for you, you shouldnt have to wait weeks.... just pay an extra 5 bucks to get it urgent delivered...

Would love to mate, but Tanya checked today and the supplier confirmed to me via the phone this arvo, won't be any in the country for 12-15 weeks

I've been diverted from the Nitro's by several people, I still think they are a good value for money lid, but it worries me thay aren't coming into the country anymore.

She who must be obeyed would have my tender bits in a jar if I spent too much on a helmet, so that pretty much counts out Arai, Shoei, AGV and for damn sure the BMW lids.

So...... I've had a KBC and loved it, fit really well, quiet, light, visor opens all the way up so I'm gunna get another one.....KBC VR-1 euro:

yup i did go for the 901....its a cool visor system...works a treat...
maybe its a bit heavy..never worried me on trip to PI or at the track..yet last week it ddid..go figure??

Just a note about the Nitro helmets not being brought into Aus anymore.

According to both Nitro and Cassons (the Aus importer) there are no "issues" with the helmets whatsoever...The decision appears to be a business one and Cassons have chosen not to import them anymore.
They believe that someone else will soon be bringing them into the country..

Thats what I have been told anyway...

I wouldnt buy another VR1.... I have one, its a good helmet, but the VR2's are only a couple of bucks more expensive and are lighter...

I have an AGV Ti-Tech, $700, paid an arm and leg metaphorically, but now I won't have to pay the price of my head?

like tonight i fixed one.. and been trying to ring a guy all day to collect the parts for another one..

If you want a cheap helmet they're ok. BUT if you want something that's better quality and will last, buy something better. And for the price of a the 1000 model, there are much better helmets.

So my point in replying in this thread was saying if you have $300 odd dollars for a KBC, buy something better than a nitro. Eg AGV airtech, composite, fully removable liner etc.

Like i said if you only want a cheap helmet, they're fine. They're better than the $100 helmets they sell (i call them go kart helmets) I'm quite happy to sell them to people who only want to spend that much money on a helmet. I'd personally rather wear an ice cream bucket, but that's their choice

I couoldnt believe the difference between my HJC and Shoei. The hjc used to have some weird aerodynamic "issues" which I though were normal till I tried the Shoei. I will never go back to a cheap helmet again especially for long days on the road. The good gear is expensive cuase it has been properly designed, has features that work and doesnt try and take your head off over 120km.h. And I must have a shoesi head too.

If there crap why are they one of the biggest selling helmets in Europe, used by the Hawk Kawasaki racing team and other racers, rated by 3 UK mags as the best value helmet on the market and there base helmet rated higher than a lot of top end helmets in the safety / comfort comparison...
I've had mine for 6 months, perhaps not long enough to make long term comment but I researched it prior to buying and have no issues with it so far..

I know guys with Suomi's that the paint has peeled of, Arias that the vents fell off and AGV's that the padding shrank so much the helmet wouldn't stay on there head....

I can safely say everyone I know with a Nitro has had no problems whatsoever...

But then I don't work in a shop, so what would would I know..

Next ppl will be bagging out Honda's cause they know a guy who had a mate that had one and he got a flat tyre on it....
Oh sorry we do bag out Hondas don't we....

BTW, you've fixed one. How many did they sell.?
and it obviosusly wasn't hard to fix....

For fun I tried some Shoei helmets last time I was in a bike shop. They do not suit my shape of head. They felt small and tight, and as I found a size that I could actually get on, it was - weird. HJC fits, kinda, and my Arai fits best so far. So that kind of makes deciding a little bit easier for me.
