This one seems to be flying under the Aussie radar. Very tragic:

News Report: Anthony Gobert Tells Australian Court He Is Addicted To Heroin

Feb 07, 2006

Copyright 2006, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc.

According to a news report by Rebecca Senescall published in the February 1, 2006 edition of the Camden Advertiser newspaper in Camden, Australia, racer Anthony Gobert admitted in court to being a heroin addict and blamed his addiction for a string of traffic arrests that have resulted in his license being revoked until November, 2010.

Gobert has also been sentenced to 300 hours of community service and fined $600.

During Gobert's most recent court appearance, according to the report, Gobert's lawyer said Gobert demonstrated "no regard for the law" but blamed the behavior on his heroin addiction. Gobert was in court after being caught speeding and driving with a suspended license, and explained that he was seeking more heroin at the time.

Stupid Bastard.

I reckon Goey was probably one of the most naturally gifted riders around in his time. Pity he just continually screws himself up.

More posts about Gobert on SuperbikePlanet. Especially important to read the last one as Anthony's mother explains what happened.

To this day Gobert would be the most naturally talented person i have seen on a Motorcross track and to a lesser extent a road race curcuit. Pitty he chose to waist that talent!!!!!!!!!

Cmon guys thats a bit harsh although there is heroin addicts from all walks of life, there was a barister that hit a cement truck with his porche a few years back in brisbane and broke a ankle and run off you guessed it he was a smack addict.

Of course i like them a lot less if they pinch me tele set or porn my tools but i am told if its administered properly they function just as good as any other human being just its not leagle in most parts of the world.

Sounds like he needs a minder and a dutch gp team. hat36.gif

Yeah he's beyond Empathy, I was delighted he looked as if he cleaned up & secured the Honda ride for the aus supers. Even went to the trouble to intoduce my son & myself & my son to him at the QR round. Wished him all the best as well.

I'm over it, lock him up. Rehab him & get him to be a useful member of society.
Another young bloke has missed out because of all his Second chances that he's wasted.
2cs.
Cheers Brett
