That was the freaky thing about that car... I never saw it go over the first bar (of about 12) on the temp gauge :)

Maybe the core of the temperature gauge sender melted?

Do you have any pics of this beast of a car? (sorry guys for going off topic again)

The cooling system on the 304 holdens is awesome. I have a VQ that just won't get hot.

That's abit of a stereotype, & it's the sillycar celica that's a hair dressers car!

My gf owns a 200SX!
All the hairdressers I know couldnt afford a 200SX as there too busy getting drunk or being socialites!

But in all fairness I would own one over any front hook rubbish, although I do hear (from a guy who drove both at the track) that the Integra type R (what a gay name for a car) ran rings around them at the track, apparently it has way better handling and brakes etc.
.

The HUNDA GUY IS FULL OF SHIT!

I have a few magazines here with the WRX, 200SX & Integra Type R in it the WRX is the quickest around the track followed by the SX followed by the HUNDA!

Maybe the Hunda guy was a better driver?
Be like me saying my 636 eats R1's, because of all the R1's I pass @ QR!

The turbo's are always going to be cheaper to get easy hp for less thru extra boost, better airfilter & free flowing exhaust.

I DON'T agree with the hairdressers car label, but EVERYONE has a different opinion & that's yours.

The Japs use the SX ALOT for drifting so they obviously have to be a reasonable handling car with plenty of Potential.

I use to own a 89 Turbo Capri & it use to really shit me that people called them a bag of shit & mention ALL the problems with it, When I asked if they had ever been in one, it was amazing they had never been for a ride in one & ALL there info was from reading stuff or from other ill informed people.

The Capri was a Ford Laser with a different top on it, it handled reasonably well for what it was & in fact was not much different around a racetrack to the same year MX5 which many people consider the best bang for your buck sports car around & that is only the N/A version Capri as the turbo Capri was faster & stock for stock a MX5 was not in the race.

Both cars run the B6 mazda engine which was a very reliable & strong engine, in turbo form it ran piston oil jets like many modern performance engines & in all DOHC forms ran HLA's for the valve actuation.

My Turbo Capri with a few mods ran 14.1@99mph@Willowbank which is by no means fast, but it was more than enough to beat the Gen3 SS that was there running 14.5@95mph.

The Capri was a good car for what it was designed, which was as a cheap convertable.

It's roof leaked & it developed lots of squeaks, but I'm sure most convertable's do that, you cut the top of a car & it loses alot of it's strength that would probably only be solved with a structual roll cage.

So I have owned a Turbo Capri with 124kw@tyres & the GF currently owns a Auto S14A 200sx with 194kw@tyres.

Both cars are considered a Hairdressers car, but both equally fun, both equally expensive with the mods done to them over the years, But both I have ACTUALLY flogged around the place to get a REAL WORLD experience of what they do, don't & can do but shouldn't.

If I could do it all over again, I would not spend as much as I did on the Capri & probably get a 250 road bike earlier so I could do trackdays, but I learnt alot from my turbo Capri years & met a few of my current friends.

BTW the SX is our current tow car, so it is slightly practical but for only (2) people, we have tried (3) for the Darlington Park trackday & it was not comfortable for the person sitting in the back. It tows (2) bikes no drama's & would probably still run a low 15 second quarter mile with the bikes on.

Interesting stuff about the mag test, I did wonder when this guy told me about the Integer being quicker, however it was at Morgan Park, which as you know is not really a horsepower track. I do find it interesting that the WRX was quicker than the SX, this guy was saying the Subie was full of understeer.

BTW it wasn't me with the Hairdresser quote, it was some cop...

However I still stick to my outdated adherance to the MOPAR discipline....

Well, this talk of 200sx vs WRX vs H*nda Integra is all very well, but I'm with HemiDuty. Sure these modern cars have high specific output, lots of camshafts and enough valves to open a tuba factory. But where's the heart? The lumpy idle? The sound of tappets on a cold morning? The wafting vapours of pre-ADR27a exhaust? The delicious combination of vast acreages of tan-coloured vinyl and lashings of chrome? No, these new cars have no soul, I tell you. Best concentrate your passions on motorcycling.

Agreed. Wholeheartedly.

Definitely :) Sorry this all went off-topic - but back to topic, it appears that an incredible percentage of 5 pages of posts are all telling you to get a shitter for here and there and get a nice bike :) Hope that's the incentive you need to take the step that many before you have already done and have never looked back from

Newer turbo cars not only go reasonably well, but can do it whilst getting 8.5-10L/100km fuel economy, good airconditioning, be reasonably quiet inside whilst driving so you can hear the stereo & have comfortable seating to drive longer distances.

The SX averages 12.5L/100km with the bike & trailer on which is the same as my Ford Courier ute empty sitting on 95kph, the Courier doesn't have Air con, Power Steer & comfortable bucket seats, & it doesn't have the acceleration of the SX either.

i only read the first post and the last few on this page, but ill add my 2 cents...

i used to have an S14A, and it really burnt me financially... i guess i couldnt really afford it in the first place tho. i got realllllll sick of it pretty quick, especially after mod'ing it and still getting arse raped by rotarys and hot gen3's  but i guess they are a lot cheaper now than they were when i bought mine 5 years ago... plus insurance for a 20 year old with such a beast was insane.

i still appreciate fast cars (but only those with engines 3L and above for turbos, 5L+ for n/a) but cant really justify owning one at this stage, as the costs are really through the roof.

since the S14A ive been using shitbox cars to get around (a few old lasers that cost me $100 each, and now driving my brothers old V8 WB ute... in that time ive owned a few bikes, and always been content driving a shitbox because i know theres a bike in the garage 8)

Cars  Pfft, Nothing more than over land boat transport.

Bike has always been my priority. All the car really needs to do is start most of the time. That said I did upgrade my cage the other week and have to say cars build in 97 are much nicer than the 87 Magna I had. Even still, it's hard to imagion getting as much fun from a commodore as I get from the ER'5. :)
