slipper clutch?????

From what i can tell, my 89 zxr750h1 has a slipper clutch

can anyone that actually knows, explain to me, how it is exactly, that a slipper clutch works....

:oops: ...as opposed to a slipping clutch.... :oops:


hydraulic clutches have no adjustment, right?

As far as I am aware they didn't come out as standard???? Unless it is an aftermarket item that someone or yourself has fitted. :?

A slipper clutch basically does what a clutch does when you take off but in reverse. In other words, coming down the gearbox while slowing, as you go down a gear, the reverse engine torque from engine braking will basically for want of a simpler explanation, operate the clutch a little, to take away some of the engine braking.

It allows you to bang it down the box really quickly coming into a corner and not have to worry about matching revs so you dont compression lock the rear tyre. It's a handy little feature for those who are a little hamfisted, or for racers looking for those vital tenths! :D

my understanding was all the 7rs have them but you have to change the plates and springs to make it work properly, they use thiner steel plates.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

so, if it was doing the same thing while accelerating, it'd be a slipping clutch, wouldnt it?

ie.....take of givin it a handful, slip it into second, and the revs stay up to a certain degree, still picking up speed..til the clutch appears to fully engage, or 'catch up'.....????

mmmmm sorry to hear that, as it sounds like you do in fact have a slipping clutch! :cry: No biggie though. Nothing a new set of friction plates wouldn't cure. It is a job best done by a techo, but can be attempted by even the most inexperienced spanner twirler who has a little common sense and mechanical empathy! :lol:

Dj if you worried about attempting it,, it shouldn't be an expensive fix at a stealership or reputable two wheeler workshop. HTH. :)

Err guys i think he wanted to know if his bike has a slipper clutch and the answer is yes.


And if you like me and a little rough getting into corners on the tack one of these would be handy the idea is you can bang it down a few gears and let the clutch out without all that nasty rear wheel hopping and dancing and sliding buisness the clutch doesnt fully engage untill you get onto the throttle.
