2c worth.....

Gos, NSW looked at registering pushbikes on a fairly indepth level once, was basically thrown out the door as cost of administering it outweighs the money they would receive.

Balanse, re Bicycle Vic, i've been a cyclist a long time and indeed a motorcycle marshall on the Around the bay in a day gig held recently, having said that, I won't join BV even for the insurance (which is what most cyclists join them for) as I really dont believe they do that much for cycling, just organise some big cycling events to get some $ in.

My 2.2 cents worth inc GST.

I love cycling and consequentially belong to Bicycle Victoria (sucks in deeply and waits for the comebacks) and much of their political orientation is about keeping motor bikes in a lane so that they dont impinge on pushy spaces.

Couple of pages devoted to why motorcyclists using bike lanes should be killed in the last issue of their mag.

I belong to BikeVic
and I give their hierachy shit over their motorbike policy
if they want to do that for bikes..the same should should apply
to pushies..and when i tell their organisers that
their eyes bulge and mouths foam..they got NFI
about road traffic management

the ultimate quote to me was.....all roads belong to pushbike riders
and all others (road users) should be removed

yeah right...from a mob of roadusers who pay no rego
or Insurance

no cheers

On the money - their agenda in a nutshell. I am in my first year and DID join cause the insurance deal was bloody great. Their politics leave me hovering between aghast and disgust. Excess of self righteousness.

I am absolutely impressed however that they have been able to politically leverage their number and sucessfully press the government for changes.

I really wish we could do that in motorcycling but it eludes us.

Hmm, just checking the BV site.........apparently they have 40,000 members ???

at $10 per year *nominal* fee for use of your treadlie on the roads, that equates to $400,000.........more than enough to fund a rego scheme in Victoria......even if you only ride your pushie on *the road* once per year......

just a thought.......it looks like the proverbial hornets nest is about to fly open.......as it always does with treadlie riders......

Dont worry rego is coming.....pollies are going to be looking for something from pushie riders when motorvehicle income declines. You watch it will be more "for your own good" stuff.

The typical argument to date centers around kids. Mostly the fear and loathing campaign of "do you want to pay rego on your kids bikes?" is enough to overly excite most of the parental population.

Some reason too as following next would be walking rego. I could not give a rats, I can and do keep my cycling off road *well mostly*.

That's only ten people on $40K? (then there's rent power aircond computers and all that stuff)

Bicycle victoria is a self thinking organisation they are in it for the cash and anything else is a bonus.Around the bay in a day sighn up and get a free pushbike  Thats good for the industry less bikes that the bike retailer gets to sell. And the bikes that they supply are peices of shit that the retailers have to fix up ok they make money on the repairs but giving the public a peice of shit bike is no way to encourage cycling. And why should bicyles get special lanes and motorcyclists rights are continually attacked by some dipshit in an office with nothing better to do than justify his job by harrasing peoples rights and coming up with lame ass idears

Gos, a LOT of pushbike riders join BV as it's a cheap form of accident insurance, not all of them would be Victorian riders I suspect, there is of course also a population of cyclists that are anti BV (me being one of them) that never have and probably never will join BV so in which case I get off scot free I guess?

I would also argue the point that I already pay rego on a car and a motorbike and can only use one of said vehicle at a time, now you want to add rego for my pushbike too? Get the fark outta here :)

Because red tape is a massive employer of people and more red tape = more jobs :) Cynical, me? Nah!

true enough.........but BV already have 20 fully-paid staff working from an office in the CBD ? I would think that they should already be in a position to easily administer a 'nominal' rego fee......without any additional overheads....2 or 3 people would be plenty.....

Yes the old arguments of 'rego on the kids bikes'  always raises its ugly head.........what kills me is that you can count on NO hands, the number of children who ride to work along a freeway......these are the riders who should be contributing......even if you ditched the rego idea, and ran with an insurance levy, at least this would mean that they are contributing *something* to the overall scheme of road users ( and lets face it, that is exactly how they want to be treated, except of course when it comes to paying their way, or being subject to demerit points, like all other road users.... )

I still like the treadlie lanes though  so thanks for those :D

Has anyone been subject to *treadlie-rage* ?? I got a dose of it a couple of years ago from an irate pushie-rider.......I was taking up too much of *his*lane ( a normal lane), when there was a cycle lane *directly* next to him :? :? just cannot get my head around an attitude like that....

i agree that if pushbike riders want roads, they should have to contribute in some way ..im sure speeding fines, rego etc that we paygets used to upgrade the roads..and they dont pay shit!!..
how is that fair...
yea..i love the bike lanes too....

maybe we should request motorcycle only lanes/roads ??

pollies are assholes, we already kno that...
