BP ultimate fuel

ive just been using caltex vortex the 95 octane stuff....

surely thats good enough for my zx6r ? .. is ultimate really worth the extra $$$$ ?

now dont make me paranoid about breaking my baby.

mate the Vortex 95 will be fine in your 600. I have not had any *bad* experiences with Caltex products thus far, and a couple of my mates use Caltex all the time..........I use Mobil 8000 in the 12 as a matter of course, (local servo), and it has never given any probloems, on occasion use BP Ultimate, and its good as well.


The whole issue of the 'correct' fuel for your own particular motorcycle can be easily determined by just checking your owners manual, and using the recommended octane-rated fuel.........*generally* no less than 95 Octane......and avoid Opticrap at all costs.......

Aircraft petrol (aka AvGas) is simply a higher-rated RON fuel, with more stringent control standards and checks during production, and will only improve performance if your engine is modified to suit ( ie higher compression) - the same reason that most European sports cars perform better on 98-octane fuel not 95.......they were designed for 98-octane.

Any RON value above 100 is only an extrapolated amount in any case, and can only really be used as a 'guide' to an 'approximate' RON value - eg AvGas is 'nominally' rated at 105/110 RON. I know from 'seat-of-the-pants' experience that using AvGas in my 'modified' Z1000 EFI bike gave me a 'crisper' throttle response overall, better starting and overall 'smoother' running.

Although I'm legally bound not to say anything about the quality of fuel..

We had a major prob with Crappymax in the VX Commodore.

I don't have a prob using normal ulp in the bikes and will only use the GREEN sellers Premium in the bikes for the odd spurt, well maybe the Star shaped sellers premium too.

I've seen too much tainted fuel in my lifetime/work to know which one I'd choose...

apart from the 98 octance stuff, the question remains - does it clean the engines that way it's advertised?

i'll probably switch back to 95, as i feel it's abit smooth on high rev on the 98, but for some reasons the engine is less noisier now on the 98.........i don't know if it's good or bad..................................

i would also recomend that u use only brand fuels liek ampol, bp, shell, mobil
some of teh noname ones tend to jsut top up their premium with normal unlneaded.... yes this is true


i use normal unleaded in my 250, i tried it with 98 and 95 and ran jsut aswell with basic stuff

What Lucas said he's a clever bloke with a "Crim" & he keeps records ... thats good enough for this ol boy.
Petrols cheap ...... AVGAS is expensive.

i dont keep records though
throw the receipt next time i fill, if something goes wrong or i get bad fuel BP will pay for repairs or in an extreme case replacement ....... but if the fuel is substandard will refund my dollars for the fuel

at the end of the day i have to run adlest 95 octane ....... so the extra 5 cent a litre isnt noticed 90 cent with a total fill

BP Ultimate Flashes at 101.9 which it the max allowed in most race cars under the cams banner

Of course BP Ultimate might be a better choice than standard octane ULP from a dodgy operator who adds ethanol, paint thinner, and any number of other things to it. But providing the fuel is of equivalent quality, there is no performance advantage in running any other fuel than the one the engine was designed for in the first place.

At least that's what I've been told.

There was NOTHING WRONG with the Independents adding the toluene to our fuel, Drag racers have been doing that for years except paying about $80 for 20L of the stuff to add to the normal crap fuel you get from the pump.

I have personally used Toluene in my previous Turbo car & it is a great octane booster for fuel, It is also the stuff that was added to our previous Super leaded fuel.
F1 cars in the eighties were using Toluene as a fuel additive up to about 80% from memeory, maybe more.

The REAL REASON behind the Fuel stories, is the Govt was missing out on tax dollars as Toluene isn't taxed like fuel is, so in big quantities like the Servo's were buying it was cheap as an Additive & therefore better margin/cheaper to sell. I think alot of car engines that would normally PING there head off from crap drivers in top gear would have been saved to drive another day.

I regularly use Optimax in my 2003 636 on the road & BP Ultimate @ most trackdays I do without ANY problems.
