Yeah agree, hard to find a bike site that doesn't make you wince frequently as you read.

Good sites are going to be discovered anyway and it's all out there to be had.

Preventing link posting is just a bit too superior & precious.

I Do 5 bike forums but mostly post in this one, kawiforums is a great place to find out stuff about zx6rs but you have to pass a lot of it through a bullshit filter to get the most out of it.

Some of the others are good for imforation about the local hills and whats happening up there even though i havnt been up there for some time.

I think you can seperate cyberspace from ride days, although the rides are organised on the forum the real people you see and talk to are the ones on ridedays.

I think that no linky thing is silly but i supose it stops links going all over the show and stops crossposting because there seems to be a bit of a buisness running over at kawiforums and good luck to them.

I was reading their commercial policy as I was curious why they did what they did.....(I tried to post a link to ksrc).. the following message appeared.

The text the poster has entered is on our banned keyword list and has been removed from view.
Items in our ban list are web site links and emails that have either violated our commercial posting policy or have been involved in distributing copyrighted material using the forum.

Then I looked up what this all meant in their FAQ.

Commercial posting of any kind is not permitted anywhere on this site unless you are a paying advertiser. Commercial posts by non-advertisers will be removed and repeated violators will be banned from the site.

Commercial posts are considered to be posts made by anyone that runs a business profiting from the sale of an item or service or is determined to be commercial in nature by the administration of this site.

Other things that are not allowed without payment are repeated links to commercial sites when it is deemed that the links are advertising in nature, links to commercial sites in signatures including images or the posting of items in the classifieds forum disguised as individual sale items.

Our philosophy is that if you're going to make money off our money and hard work, then you should pay for the right to advertise here. All monies received for advertising on this site go directly to the cost of hosting and maintenance of the site and related hardware. Our members need to understand that every dollar that they spend with a non-paying advertiser is a dollar that doesn’t go to the support and continued evolution of this site and takes money from those that support this site by paying for advertising space.

If you would like more information about advertising on or sponsoring our site, please direct any requets to mailto:sales@KawiForums.com explaining what your product or service is along with a link to your site.

So I sent them an email for my own curiosity and received a quick reply. Notice how I slipped in the ksrc link.

Subject: commercial posts

Hello, I am a little bit confused here, why has http://www.ksrc-au.com been banned, it is not a commercial
site in essence, ok they have sponsors to help with the costs same as you guys do?
What I am asking is why another Kawasaki (sister) site is banned from having a link posted in your forums?
Many people list kawiforums over there and have membership in both as well as many other forums and
I see no problem with cross-promotion between the 2, besides the whole idea is for like minded
people to keep the biking brother/sisterhood alive and together and not make people divided.
I might be missing something here can you please let me know?

Thanks

Why do I see *removed* in posts?

*************

Search that site for PDF manuals some time. Those are completely stolen and violate US copyright
laws which we do fall under. We have an advertising contract with Kawasaki USA and do not intend
to ruin it by allowing links to such things.

Other than that, looking through posts that contain the URL, it seems its only use has been for a
membership drive.

I don't see where this email is much about "sister sites" since we apparently don't share the same
ideals, mainly the distribution of Kawasaki's intellectual property and we distance ourselves from
forums that allow it.

Make of that what you will, HTH in understanding what’s going on. 8)

Thanks for the info Jonno.
So why haven't they banned ebay, theres more pdf bike manuals on there than you can poke a stick at...?
We don't distribute manuals, we have a logged file, for back up purposes, that is not advertised on our web site and cannot be accessed from a search.
I also notice one of there main sponsors is a decal supplier who sells (on the evil ebay) replica Kawasaki decals as well as a lot of brand name stickers. Surely they are all copyrighted and therefore an infringement of there high moral standards.

I think there last comment is there problem, and I certainly don't think the posts were a membership drive, there Aus content appear to already be KSRC members...

Anyway, its fine, I don't want this to turn into a bitch session so we'll let it go...

I see it as "we have permission" & they dont sorta thing. Which is absaloute crud imho. Obviously they are selective in how they impose a ban which without over generalising is pretty damn farken' rude ain't it.

As Yappa would say " Ya fuggen' eggs' go root yaselves".

Next topic .....

Cheers Brett

Useless :x

I found this site through another Kawasaki Forum. Someone from this site linked this site from another forum. I came here lurked around, enjoyed the jokes, its like reading someone else home town paper, its interesting and entertaining.
I know most of you have a problem with Americans in one way or another but I was hoping to somehow prove that Americans are no different than anyone else in this world. Think about it, do you like your next door neighbor? How about the guy down the street? Englishmen have a reputation as being a little hard to get to know, Germans stick their noses in the air, and the French, hahaha well even the Canadian Frenchman can be rude.
Do I feel lucky to be an American, Hell Yeah, sure beats living in a place where the power is with the rich or powerful and they make the rules. We are all luck to live in democracies with equal rights for all. I guarantee you if any of you were to come here you’d be treated like a lost cousin. This place isn’t Hollywood or Disneyland, and yes we have guns, it isn’t perfect but where is perfect? I don’t think Oz is any different from here; I for one appreciate the support your country has given mine. I don’t speak for all Americans, because that is just as impossible as any of you trying to speak solely for all Australians. I just want to be a good citizen to this forum.
Nuff Said
Cheers (as you all would say)

Their response seems a tad shrill, and the 'membership drive' comment is a bit of a stretch. I actually agree with the position of not pirating IP (I work in a software company, it'd be hypocritical of me to do otherwise) but I'd have to say that if you going to ban outright based on copyright infringement, you'd have to ban people using Kawasaki's copywritten publicity photos in their signatures, etc. etc.

Just out of interest Jonno, did a particular moderator or admin sign their name to that response?

Brett, We do have permission to use the Kawasaki name. I have numerous e-mails from Mark Barnett at Kawasaki Aus supporting our group and giving permission to use the brand name.
I'd suggest they are called Kawi forums (not using the Kawasaki name) as they did not have permission to use the name when they set up.
Reading the response I suggest they may now...

I also have had acknowledgment of that from Kawasaki Aust

I was talking to Rob (forget his surname) the Vic Sales and MArketing Manager for Kawasaki last week at BKwaka ..he was in there chatting to the various riders who walked in
He was talking to me re the 12r blah blah and then asked if I rode with anyone
and I said KSRC.. He smiled and said ' aaah yes, you guys really promote us, happy about that'

'nuff said

ciao'
