Dunno too much about this bike , but had a quick chat with the owner while we filled up .
Had quite a few kays on it and was less tidy that the pics show but for $2500 it seemed like he had got himself a bargain .
Sounded great :D
Track fun a plenty I would think for that sort of money .

What du rekon ?

Friend of mine had one when I was younger....

2 stroke 250.... Was quick at the time, but kawasaki stopped making them.... Apparently the handling wasnt as good as the suzukis of the time.. but it was quicker in a straight line (or so he told me)

yes 2 stroke 250.

it would have been good in its time

Have heard that too , gotta love a "ringding ding ding ding"

I decided my bike at the time was superior...... it had electric start....

Ofcourse I didnt really understand the difference between 2 and 4 stroke....

This was my bike at the time...

Hey billy, when you say quite a few k's on it..... how many are we talking here?

Considering they probably stopped making KR1's back in the eighties...

Wed Jan 18, 2006 11:43 am

Had 30 thou plus , but the owner knew it had done some racing . For a stroker 250 I would think that was a lot .

But hey whats a couple of rings between friends

Now who is gonna modify this first ?

Wed Jan 18, 2006 12:18 pm

yeah but what parts of it have done 30K..

the engines prob been rebuilt several times.. Apparently one of the biggest advantages to a 2 stroke engine.

And if it was a trackie then most likely quite a few parts have been replaced.

Plenty of ZX2R's out there with over 50K on them.

My bike is now 2 and a bit years old and has 35,000 on it....

Wed Jan 18, 2006 12:55 pm

Billy, have you bought a 250 stroker??

Wed Jan 18, 2006 1:26 pm

Nah Mate but would love one of these KRs . Would be a bit of fun :D Last 2 stroke road bike I owned was an aircooled RD 350 with a disc brake . Laughed my head off every time I rode it ....
Or shit myself when IT decided to lift its front wheel .
Back off the gas and snap the power back on and it was anyones guess what would happen next .

that looks like a nice tidy example of a great little bike mate ! 30,000km *sounds* like a fair few km's for a smoker, but these babies are water-cooled, which means much tighter tolerances than the old air-cooled dungers we rode when we had pimply butts
- so you can expect a lot longer between re-builds with the w/c strokers.....I gotta mate with an RD350LC (1980), that is ridden *semi-regularly*........he has owned it since new........and it has *never* been apart for a re-build. Still starts and runs quite well, it has lost a *bit* of poke, but heh, its 25 years old now......

Using a good-quality oil is the key to long engine life with these babies.....that, and don't flog them until they are warmed up.......

i remember the 2 stroke days, some of the most fun years of biking in my life :)

why is it you get pulled to one brand most of your life, for some reason it was always kawasaki, ive never gelled with any other make.

although i do have fond memorys of my tzr250 and i found out a few months ago its still on the road after 15 years :!:
