Music for Ageing Rock Gods

Sat Jan 14, 2006 10:16 pm

Are You an Ageing Rock God ??

Know How to Play the Air Guitar ??

Generation X'er ????

Well, tune into Rage each Saturday night during January, for your fix of the following fantastic repeats......

Countdown (1975 - 1987) - we all know whats here - Molly in a hat, pissed.
GTK (1970-1974) (this stood for 'Getting To Know') - great videos, short doco's, etc
Hit Scene (1967? - 1972) - mad psycho videos, flower power, etc
Rock Arena (1983? - 1990) - upmarket Countdown for latte-guzzlin' wankers
Recovery (for the young 'uns) (1991? - 1996) - drug-induced coma videos

Rage do this every year, on each Saturday night during January only. Tonights broadcast starts at 11.50pm approx, and includes such memorable hits as:

Marvyin Gaye - Sexual Healing
Billy Idol - White Wedding
Blancmange - Living On The Ceiling ( you'll know it when you hear it  )
Kajagoogoo - Too Shy
Prince - 1999
Laura Branigan - Gloria

INXS - The Loved One
Bucks Fizz - Making Your Mind Up
Emmylou Harris - Mister Sandman
Mondo Rock - Cool World
Roxy Music - Jealous Guy

There is heaps of other *great* music and musicicans featured as well as the above

The Rock Arena episode features Simple Minds, Eurogliders, Joni Mitchell, and The B-52's.

This is just a taste of the fantastic musical extravganza on ABC every Saturday night during January - I have been taping these since 1999  , and have now watched more Countdown episodes than I watched back in the 70's / 80's

The funniest thing is 'Who had the biggest mullets', and without any doubt, INXS were the 'mulletest' band out there..........although Brian Mannix from Uncanny X-Men tried his damndest........

Great for shiftworkers, or old farts like me who want to educate their children in what music *should* sound like.....

I caught that last night, man there was some crap around then. The only decent song on the show was Only for Sheep..
Luckily I was channel surfing and clicked it over to SBS (for research purposes only) and TISM were on. They played the Wanker video, damn thats funny... :-)

Has anyone ever tried to play air guitar to any of this stuff, c'mon?

Classic air guitar material is Led Zep, Hendrix, Queen, Free, Kiss, Van Halen, and on and on and on...........

This is more like soppy pop. But t still brings back memories.

I bet !! having a few Beams wouldn't hurt either....... :P

Ponti - I have both of those, but only on VHS mate, happy to knock up a copy if you like......I think they actually interviewed the singer from 'The Bureau' last night......

Fox on the Run   yeh, those boys had some *awesome* mullets.....they were just bloody everywhere, I think Johhny Farnham had one FFS  Duran Duran were pretty *bad* as well......

MadKaw - heaps of crap, but there is beauty in ugliness  I shake my head at how *bad* some of the really bad stuff is, its worth putting up with for the good stuff.....

Philthy - I have heard about that game, will go and hunt down a copy, it sounds great........we used to do a 'Music Trivia' game at work, all you get is 2 lines from *somewhere* in the song, for 100 songs, and it ran for 1 week. You had to name Title and Artist, and it was bloody difficult   It was a great game.........maye we should run something on here ??

:D
