ZXR750 The Tale of Woe to Go

I'm gunna do a diary of sorts to capture the pain and suffering or fun it will be to put this bike back together. The first thing to do is ..........? I will be asking for advice and assistance, may even bribe a few ppl to lend a hand.

After picking up the "bike" from MadKaw's "shed" this is what I pulled out of the Kia when I woke up from a few hours sleep upon returning to Melbourne from Sydney.

Spread out across the shed are numerous parts of a H1 ZXR750 it also came with a pair of table lamps If they havn't been tossed yet I get a pic.

Whoa have fun will be an epic adventure for sure, maybe a sticky is needed as you update us with the progress.
I reckon strip the engine and rebuild it, check out the carbs, and while that’s on the go start on the frame, swing arm, shock, wheel bearings and generally clean everything. Fairings are another thing that can be done in the meantime. A lot of it can’t really be tested until its at that stage of build ie. Wiring and stuff. What are you building it as, track or road or both?
You might even consider polishing the frame whilst it is easy to get at, that’s a hard job but the results are worth it IMO. I have only rebuilt dirt bikes and one road bike being a vary rare HD 80cc sprint which was impossible to find parts for so had to machine my own and I am sure HD would like to see that thing buried. Attention to detail is the key, learn the parts and what they do and get a workshop manual, that will save much heartache

Can i suggest where you start
well you put it together to see if you have everything then pull it apart to make it pretty
but do wash everything

Lucas, you know where I live mate..... but yeah I was gunna mock it up first. Get a list of what's needed happening and move on from there.

Anyone able to put me onto someone who can reco the motor, yell out or PM me. Or does anyone know if any other motors fit into these things.

the H series motor..is basically a GPx750 one
(I saw the photo and thought you had got a GPx750)
same guts and bits,so most should be able to reco it
parts and bits are pretty easy to come by
and FYI
a GPx750 motor should bolt straight in

thought you would have to be there in the Kia
but based on the photos...reckon you might have caught a flight
would have been more comfortable
and less smelly

sounds like you 2 had a great time in Synney
and Dave gets one of his bikes recycled

Does a ZX9R motor fit?

Don't care what any one else says mate.....all I see there is potential!!!

I'm not definate about the H1 but I know the J1 will take a ZX9 motor with no issues.

If I happen to be over that way I'd be happy to throw a coupla days at it for you.
As for the frame....well I think black and the J1 limited edition blue....but I am biased.

PS... I forgot to mention I may be able to lay my hands on a 750RR motor, it would be exchange and is here in SA, but PM if you want me to do the leg work on it. (I changed the cams on my J1 to the RR jobbies, and it was like a rocket compared to the old ones)
