ZZR250 to ZX2R?

So older ZX6Rs are a bit milder than the current ones? Is the riding position a bit more relaxed/upright? Dunno if I'd like to spend all day hunched over the fuel tank.

they are. anything before 03 is pretty much an armchair compared to the newer supersports bikes.
8k would get you a pretty good zx6.

had a cruiser for a loan bike today. would much rather do big k's on my zx6.

The ZXR250/ZX2R will be, if anything, more annoying on the highway than the ZZR250. Being on a 250 really does make the trip more tiring.

An ER5 is a great little bike, but you would find it's probably not much of a step up from the ZZR250... if anything it's a step down but with a bigger engine. The ZZR has at least some sporting aspirations, while the ER5 is pure bargain-basement commuter material. That's not to say it's a bad thing, if that's what you're after then it is the bike for you.

A ZZR600 is a great bike, and while being dated it is very well sorted with regards to reliability and will probably last you 5 years. Your biggest complaint will be the weight - although my old housemate who is about 5'5 and 55kg can ride one so anyone can manage with confidence. If you plan on covering any serious miles then this is the bike for you. Around town.. probably a bit porky for day-to-day use.

The SV650 is probably the choice of "step up" bikes, really great useable power, cheap as chips - under $10k brand new, so even if you haven't got a lot of play with you can get a very good second hand one fairly cheap!

older zx6r's are the bizz, same ergo's as the 9R (comfy as, yet can still be sporty) and a nice step up from the 250... there wouldnt be bugger all difference between a ZZR250 and a ZX2R... might pull away a little at high speed, but not enough to really feel the difference


95-97 zx6r's are a pretty good cheap bike, tho a bit ugly IMO.... 98 onwards 6R's are damn nice bikes.... and then the 9R... oooh

if i had my time again i woulda bought a zzr250.

I think a road trip to Albury is called for to shoot ZZR Bandit

I think I might start barricading up my unit and build a watch/gun tower....hehehe

That's a very nice offer Mick - after I'm off the power restriction I might just have to take you up on it! (NB - make sure you've renewed your insurance before letting me anywhere near the bike!)

John, the bike is far from bling state otherwise I wouldn't let anyone near it. You wouldn't be the first bloke still on restrictions to ride it and I don't have insurance, so if you want to take ot for a spin, be very very gentle

Lot of weight difference, a fair bit of a change in handling and marked change in throttle response.

Prior to 250's being brought in (yes i'm an old fart too) people used to go for their license on Kwaka z900's and stuff so personally, the 250 thing I don't put much stock in.

NSW has had LAM's for quite a while now and shows no signs of being any more dangerous than riding a 250 so wouldn't sweat on the cc thing to much frankly.
