ZX7R - I'm thinking naked - your opinions/examples

Postby fat460 » Thu Dec 29, 2005 1:40 pm

Well here it is. I finally got my freshly painted tank and seat assembly on my bike today and its looking real good. But its looking that good I'm thinking of leaving it naked. My painter mate hasn't done my fairing yet so if I'm gonna do it now is the time to decide. I'll organise some as is pictures but in the meantime it is painted kawasaki green - wheels included, still has the silver frame, single seat cowl, full titanium muzzy system (its a shame to cover up such a great looking exhaust), carbon fibre exhaust hanger, crash knobs, green hel braided brake lines, fender eliminater and tiny carbon fibre look indicators, it also has a fiberglass undertail assembly that is currently being painted. I know at the end of the day its my decission but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts and would love to see any pics of naked ZX7R's if you have any. Thanks gang.

Paul.

headlights are those 2 roundies you get from most streetfighter shops, i picked them up for $200 with the cool screen. bellypan is my old lower farings cut down to the shape i wanted and sprayed up, i reckon they turned out pretty well.

it looks good in photos, but it is a little rough when you get up close. will be fixing some of that soon tho, i have ideas, just no money or time

I'm inclined to agree with Mina, it looks kinda naked without the fairing...

yeah, they've been on a couple of bikes now, great value for money there :D had heaps of peoples ask me where i got the screen.... where DID you get the screen?

and the cans are another hand-me-down job (as i tend to do) so maybe ask hemiduty about them. they look and sound the part, thats for sure, very unique too which is something i ALWAYS go for in a bike.

what are you playing around with now? i know you ditched the Z750 to get a katana, and i know you had that up for sale recently, whats the latest love of your life?

James: The cans came with my old (sounds wierd saying that) 7R racebike when I bought it, I have no idea where they came from before that either. But if you really need to know I guess I could try to find out, I have lost contact with the guy I bought it off, but could do what I can.

FAT440 (Mopar mistake intended  ): I am a fan of streetfighters too. But if you are thinking of trackdaying the thing you will really miss the fairings. You should be able to get somewhere around 240+ up the back straight of QR on a decent 7R, and it gets windy enough with full fairings at that speed. However if this is of little concern then go for it. I do not think 7s are the ideal streetfighter, but they can come up real good. I always think of wheelies and other stunts when I think of streetfighters, and 7s are not the best wheelie machine but it is of little consequence in the end. The belly pan is a must for a good look, as is the little mini screen with the lights. I reckon a different rear cowl would be good to, something pointy like a - dare I say it - R1 unit. If you want I have a spare 03 model single seat cowl here you can dummy fit to see how it looks / fits, and if you like it we can make a mold or something. Pointy arse ends look greaton streetfighters IMHO. You could also do the digital race dash or something to make it more differenter, and the motoX bars are always cool.

You aren't thinking of bashing the tank in are you?

Nah no bashing the tank. Thanks guys for your thoughts. I think I'll stick to the original plan and put her clothes back on because I mainly want to do track days and sunday squirts and Hemi has a valid point. I think it is me being impatient to get it going. I'll just keep at it - another couple of weeks should see me done. Mmmmm I am a mopar fan actually. A 440 in a vf/vg coupe sounds real good - maybe with a yankee dart front. I'll get those pics tomorrow.

hehehehee  yeah the wind getting close to 200 gets a little hairy with zero protection, but thats what muscles are for

to me, the fighter isn't about stunting, and funnily enuff, the few stunters i know all prefer to hold onto their faring as long as they can (constant stacking doesn't help this). i just like the looks and feel of a naked bike and the power and handling of a sportsbike. plus i like to fuck with things
