ZXR750 vs ZX7R

Postby falomvtr » Tue Dec 20, 2005 8:07 pm

Hey people,

Might be asking a dumb question but it woudn't be the first time. Looking into getting a track bike and the 750 sports Kwaka seems a really good option. So my question is, what is the major diff between the ZXR750 (94/95) and the ZX7R?? Was it just a name change or are we talking big changes. The older ones are obviously a bit cheaper so I am just trying to open up my options...

Thanks,

Stew

The ZXR750 L1/2/3 ran from 1993-1995 with the ZX7R P1 coming late in 1995 as a 1996 model. They ZX7R P1 had a much more powerful motor with a stomping midrange for the time and about 120hp at the wheel for a good en. The ZX7R had six piston Tokicos rather than the four pistons on the ZXR750. They had more bite and better feel. Both had mega stable front ends. The ZX7R is the better bike if you can afford one. But the L1/2/3/ or even an ZXR750M (pretty rare-came with close ratio box, flat slides, adjustable s/arm pivot etc.,) would still be a good bike. They are pretty reliable too. HTH

ummm, I think that is a bit optimistic...
A stock ZX7R would put out about 105 rear wheel hp... A slip on and jet kit may get up to 110 and a full system, jet kit and tweaking will get about 115hp.
I believe they were rated at 120 odd hp at the crank...
They only had about 4 or 5 hp more than the 93 to 95 model but it had much better mid range and reved harder due to the shorter stroke motor..
