Did anyone else that uses TPG get this email??

"Dear Valued Customer,

The ADSL Broadband plan you currently subscribe to (1.5M Value Unlimited) is no longer offered. We apologise for any inconvenience, however this has been necessitated by changes to our costs for your plan.

In order for you to continue receiving TPG's Broadband service you need to migrate to another plan before the expiry date of your current subscription on 15/02/2006."

The bastards.... Now what?

yeah, i got that. pretty bloody dirty on them for it, but it works out ok cos i looked elsewhere and found better  Exetel do a 1500/256 plan with 35g of downloads and a static ip for $70. i know its not as good value as the TPG $50 plan, but thats gone now and its the best value i could find....

As both an ex-customer and an ex-employee, I'm not the slightest bit surprised.

Cost control is priority 1 2 and 3 for those guys - that's how the company has been in business for 20 odd years. Customer service is something that I don't think they'll ever get the hang of, because it interferes with cost control. Their thinking is along the lines of "Yes we lost a heap of customers when we discontinued our plan with only 4 weeks notice, but at least we didn't lose 2 cents on our resale of bandwitdth!"

Im on iinet, 1.5mbit down 512kbit up, 8gb peak / 8gb offpeak per mth.
$59.95/mo charged to my c-card quarterly. i know its not as high in quota as some of the others, but iinet are damned reliable (usually, they have improved HEAPS in the 4 yrs ive been with 'em), and im happy to pay what im paying for what i get.

theres adsl2 as an option, costs a bit more, but stupidly higher speeds.
linky

I'm with TeeGee $65 for 1500 with 20gb..

I'm on the 512 unlimited plan $39.. (had no setup fees or any costs when I joined)

Has been fine... so far...

Aarkvark that sounds like the plan I'm on, and I havent got an email yet?

$49.95 a month? 20gig speed cap?

If I were you I'd move to ADAM internet ADSL2, theyre setting up exchauges everywhere at the moment, it's still $50 a month, still 20 gig cap but f*ckloads faster.

As a current customer and another ex employee i'm not surprised either. I'm on the 20Gb job for $50 a month and no email yet.

you WILL get the e-mail, i think its just a matter of when you started your contract :?

sucks, but you cant do anything about it. start looking for a new carrier ASAP so your not caught out when they do send you an e-mail....

The plan i'm on is the same as other's have mentioned.

20gb, $49.95, 1500 connection.

TPG are getting rid of the plan. You can read about it here:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-re ... m?t=449975

If my exchange was ADSL2 enabled (or even if they had it planned to be upgraded) I would take that option. But it's not, so I can't.

Having done some research, I agree with Coco. The Exetel plan looks like the next best thing. Unless you go with Dodo, but they don't churn.

only prob with the exetel plan is that the DL is free after like 10pm. fantastic for leeching, but thats a bit of a prob too because it seems to overload the network some nights :? slowest i've had is about 50k/s downloading at that time so its still reasonably fast, no where near as bad as a cap anyways.

just something to keep in mind i guess, everything else about the service is on par with the best of them, its just the structure might not suit late night (porn) surfers
and the static ip is real handy for me, doesn't matter to most but it makes my life easier...

There acceptable use policy is pretty harshly worded with regards to downloading of copyrighted material. I take it you havent had any problems yet?

as usual, i'm lazy as fark  didn't look at the acceptable use thing nor have i ever with anyone else

i had a small problem with my webspace, which has been resolved now. turns out their servers delete ANY multimedia (sound & video) found on there every single night unless you specifically ask for permission. i was a bit jacked off at first but found it was all in plain view on the webspace setup page and they fixed it up pretty quick smart when i sent them an email telling them i was just hosting vids of the newborn twins.

basically, they've seen another ISP get pinged for its users doing illegal things and they're a bit paranoid. besides the webspace problem i havn't had any issues in downloading all my illegal movies, games, software and music

im with TeeGee internet, $34.95 for 10GB at 512kb ... connection gets a little dicky at times, but i think my modem is on its way out :? downloading isnt a problem tho and have no trouble getting a steady 52KB/sec. static IP too.

last time i checked it was the only decent plan in the 30 dollar range

edit: i just checked, and theres heaps in the 30 buck range  nothing worth churning tho, but a few slightly better value.
