RC Cars anyone..???

Postby MadKaw » Mon Jan 21, 2013 3:44 pm

Bought the kids a couple of RC electric buggies for Xmas. The youngest one got a brushed NIMH powered jobbie that goes about 30kph and the older one got a brushless 2 cell lipo (7.4v) powered unit that does about 60+ kph..
These things fly and are great fun.
Sooooo, I bought myself one, a cheap fixerupper from ebay.. It turned out it was that stuffed the guy gave me money back as it wouldn't run...
Anyway a few new bits and its up and running, unfortunately the older boys car was faster... So I dropped a 3 cell Lipo (11.1V) in mine and its nuts, does about 80kph (I'm testing em with my GPS when I can a satellite) with instant power. Bloody hard to keep straight and keep the wheels on the ground.! Luv it.!!
Building a track in the back yard... :D

My brother has been right into the petrol ones for years, even going as fast as supercharging one. Now that thing flew, no matter how sticky the rubber was, cruise along at 60kph then nail it and t would loop itself and fry the tires no worries.

Anyways long story short, he didn't like me playing with it as I couldn't resist just flooring it everywhere which meant control was never going to happen.

So is your track going to be restricted to battery cars only or are nitro ones allowed as well?

Sounds awesome; fancied getting myself a glow car for a while but may have to wait a while.

Nitro R/C was a large mistake to buy, like vanrootn, it was in need of repairs more than it was in good order, and funnily enough everything is quite expensive. I sold it and am sooooo happy i did.

Thats why we went electric, and the local track only allows electric.. :-)
The new brushless motors, ESC's and lipo combo's are pretty good these days and the cars fly. Parts are cheap as, motors and ESC's can be picked up for $40 to $50 a set and lipos for about $15.. Then its just busted body parts and tyres (cost me $17 for a set of wheels with tyres).... :D

We've got Tamiya Baja Kings. Elec buggy that are a heap of fun. Just ordering some Ali front wish bones as they seem to be the weak point. Had them seven years and they're still going strong.

Played around with the cars a bit, but I have been flying RC planes (on and off) since I was 15...

Similar. I used to love my Tamiya RC car when I was young learnt a lot fixing it and upgrading it etc.

Few years ago built a good 3d heli from the ground up. Learnt to fly reasonably well on pc simulator but never got around to flying the damn thing because I'd discovered motorbikes, kids etc :D - one day.

Will do the car thing once the kids can join in.

How do you guys find the wheel controllers? Feel weird to me having always used the stick style
