so we have any fridgies on board ? I need some advice on sorting out a bar fridge for the 4th Dimension Bourbon Bar......I have a great donor fridge, its an old F&P (Frigidaire) u/s down model. Dickhead me put a tiny hole in the cooling unit thingy that sits inside the fridge.....of course over a few days the refrigerant slowly leaked out......

So I want to either replace the unit inside the fridge and have it re-gassed - or replace the whole refrigerant set-up with a new one.

This fridge has 25 years worth of stickers on it that date back to 1985 - so I am not buying a new one.

Whats the go with re-gassing or replacing parts ?? Fridge was working perfectly before I decided to de-frost it .....

Hasnt anyone ever told you not to use a srewdriver or steak knife to chip the ice away Should still beable to get it re gased and maybe solder the hole up?

yes I fucked up with a screwdriver when de-frosting . Had not considered soldering up the hole - its pretty small and easy to get to, as its right on the front of the cooler panel .

Hey Gos I'm assuming your referring to putting a hole in the evaporator.

The big question is where is the hole?
I'm hoping for your sake its in the copper not an aluminum part of the coil. If its in copper it's all good. The copper hole simply needs to be soldered up. You need to use minimum of 12% silver if your thinking of doing it yourself.
System then needs to be evacuated and then recharged.

A fridge that old will be running on R12 so unless you find someone with some it will need to be retrofitted to a new refrigerant.

Oh and yer I'm a fridgy......

Hehe it's got a lot of expensive stickers on it mate........

Sunshine is right. We actually had a couple of ten kg bottles knocked off one of our trucks the other day. They just cut through the lock on it.

That bottle had about $1200 of refrigerant left in it. Three months ago that was only $300 worth....

Refrigerant has become liquid gold!

I just work.......don't deal with the prices so I have no idea what RRP would be.

Yes mate. I'd have to check, but it has changed recently due to the emissions trading scheme....pm me if you want a price for work.

thanks Johnny - the hole is in one of the tube sections of the evaporator.....its smaller than the tip of a ball-point pen. Should be easy to solder up I think. Will be interesting to see if I can get some R12 ..... and if it costs a few bob....well so be it. I couldn't replace those stickers in lifetime !
