Rant about dogs.

Rant:
I noticed the dog bowl in the kitchen sink this morning. I paused, looking at it in disbelief. My housemate advised me it wasn't unhygienic & repeated this, convincing himself, but not me that it was so. I know he showers with his dog in his ensuite, the dog sleeps in their bedroom & a housemate who left saw his partner clean her thongs in the sink. I'm scared of what I haven't seen. My level of hygiene is obviously higher than theirs, it's his house & they love the dog like a person. Wish me luck negotiating!
Rant over.

Nicholas... get over it mate. As long as things are washed properly, there is no more risk than your dirty plate being in there. Your sounding a little obsessive compulsive or maybe precious!!!
As for dogs licking their bits. They do it because they can!!!
I was in a pub recently with Astro and he started licking his dick. A bloke looked down and saw it and said "I wish I could do that" I replied... "If you give him a pat and a biscuit he might let you...." Boom tish!

Yeah - too many bloody TV ads about germs this and showing people touching this or that and leaving trails of germs, unless of course you wipe with blah blah all purpose cleaner (because you thought of the children...)
If we were half as delicate as that we'd be extinct. Sure, the surgeons hands need to be pretty damn clean when he's operating, almost as clean as mine when I'm assembling a new motor (if covered with clean diesel and assy lube). But anything that survives on your hands that goes into your face is just part of the food-chain.
People at the office are so anal about double dipping - it's a bit of an Australianism I think - no such thing back in bad RSA. I've got no problem giving an office colleague a bite of my sanga, or a swig of my drink - here taste this.
People are funny.

Strika heres another out take on it all,
What type of tool washes a dog bowl?? And who in their right mind washes their bloody thongs??
So who now is obsessive compulsive ??
Nicko, tell the prick to smarten up, if i found that in the sink i would throw it out. If there is funk left in the bowl then dont feed Rover so much.
At best a rinse under the garden tap is more than enough.

This kinda tool.
I wash mine fairly regularly. Not that they really need it, as the dogs lick them shiny clean each feed. Matter of fact, they inhale it usually!! But, i like things clean and see no reason why a wash occasionally is anywhere close to obsessive compulsive. Especially as I allow them to give me big chin to forehead face licks when they are feeling affectionate!!
As for washing a pair of dirty thongs in the sink, who cares, as long as you clean the sink after????

Nicholas (we share the same name but I am not pissed when we pronounce it, I spell it without the h)
Ask your friend about dog infections that can be passed onto humans, maybe do a little research about their testicles dropping off. My wife works at a zoo, so works with animals all day. We have 2 dogs, guinea pigs and fish and I can tell you the lecture about washing hands is endless. With 2 kids I cop it day and night. However it is a bit like talking to a Doctor about smoking, yeah you may be lucky and won't get cancer but is it worth the risk.
With dogs they are largely clean, if they sleep inside and you wash their bedding or "shower" with them regularly then the risk is reduced but that only reduces the risk not eradicates it.
Fact is if you eat shit (yes dogs do) roll in it (yes they do) and chose to bath in the same water well there is a chance you may catch a disease.
Good luck.
BTW our dogs are inside dogs for most of the time and we have 2 kids, that doesn't mean you can't be clean

It's going to be hell when the "antiseptic" generation reach the outside world and find that extra care has robbed them of a developed immune system.
