CHEAP DENTISTRY - HOLIDAY INCLUDED

Postby pah » Sat Aug 18, 2012 12:05 pm

Hi Guys,

Here's a plug for a dentist I used this time last year. I knew I needed around $14k worth of dentistry. My boss said he needed me to do 4 weeks work at the Clark Education City (old USA Clark AFB) in the Philipines. I emailed the local Aussie boss and asked him to recommend a dentist - and he did. I understand that the Aussie expats up that way pretty much use and recoomend this dentist:

The $14k worth of dentistry cost me under $6k and so far (one year later) no problems at all. $8k of savings far more than pays for flights and accomodation. When I was up there last year, $1 Aust bought around 40 pesos. Beers were less than $1 Aust and bottles of spirits were around $10 Aust.

Yep a teeth clean over in Thailand cost me $20 which is about $200 over here.

I also may need to some root canal done in the future. I have been quoted $5500 over here but just $800 over there.

Thing is when looking at this guys degrees, they were all from England. Plus his shop was cleaner than most over here

The oldman imports and sells dental lab and surgery equipment. The dentists and labs overseas can be clean and qualified to the hilt. The problem arises when they use cheap inferior materials in fillings, root canal or even just for the basic clean. Do you know what exactly they actually put in your mouth? At least here everything is meant to be TGA approved. Similarly the equipment they use is often not intrinsically safe or installed to standards. You often get what you pay for and it may be 5-10 years later things go wrong ;)

Your Not really comparing apples with apples.

Maybe it is cheaper in his case because we don't have
- massive minimum wage.
- massive rental costs
- massive electricity costs
- massive Australian medical practice costs
- cost of living is huge

The fact is a lot of things in this country are so dear by our own doing. Don't always knock other countries because they can do it cheaper.

I agree with what Firey has to say as he has knowledge on the subject, unlike your appeared lack of knowledge that you displayed above by comparing it with 'helmets'.

Oh and where do you think half or more of Australian (thus worlds) helmets are made, or at least the components there of ;) they still protect your noggin and have passed the 5 tick test
