Collingwood v Hawthorn

Postby Jonno » Sun Jul 15, 2012 6:04 pm

Righto youse Pies supporters, Hawks beat you lot last time 20.17.137 to 16.19.115 back in March.

The mighty Hawks look in devastating form today after another "training run" and % boost. Dogs 6.8 (44) Hawks 17.14 (116)
Both the Hawks and pies look like top contenders for the GF.

Money talks bullshite walks, who is up for a wager?

I'm up for $50. No points start.

Pies beat *the reigning premiers * last night, was out to almost 10 goals before we took the foot off the pedal to win by an easy 5.

Hawks beat a side that hasn't been in the top 8 for 15 years    with 1 premiership to their name. I wouldn't be reading too much into that win......but heh its always good to beat sides in the bottom 4......

:P - Get your wallet out bitch :P you'll be needing it.

Geelong ???     mate they won't even be in the 8 at the end of the h&a season. Have you seen their draw ?

Essendon @ Etihad (rewards fast-running sides that use all the ground)
Crows @ home
Hawks @ MCG
Eagles @ perth
Saints @ Etihad ( Saints kick arse here)
Bulldogs @ home ( btw - this is the only game in the run home that is a guaranteed 4 points for the Cats)
Swans @ home.

Cats have the hardest run home of any team currently in the 8. Saints & Roos are both currently playing better footy than the Cats and both have easier runs home.

Don't forget - it was only last weekend that the Cats struggled to beat the worst team in the comp by 2 goals !!! that is the form of a team that has a snowballs chance in hell of winning a GF this year.

The dogs have been no good this year or last year but they where defiantly thereabouts in 2008 as the mighty hawks beat them on the way to their premiership during the finals......:-):-)

Gos you realize that we took you to within a kick last year before the grand final, and realistically if it wasn't for us losing our way in the last three minutes we should have won.......
We are the only team that has been able to take it too you over the last couple of years no matter our form....

Just a shame frankos not playing as that would be more of an indication of where both sides are at.

I was at the game on Sat & BTW I don't support either team, actually no team...south melbourne doesn't exist anymore... but I must say the pies are doing a brilliant job, their set up's are superb especially their back line, my top 3 is weagles, pies, hawks with a Hawk / pie GF

 - yes it is a shame that Buddy will be out, he is a sensational player. Looks like you guys might be without Hodgey as well, his knee has blown up again.

Now as far as the rest goes......yes, you guys did get within a kick last year in a prelim - but could of, would of, should of - matters not. We got within a kick of the Cats a few years ago in a preliminary that we *should* have won but didn't, and the Cats went on to thrash Port in one of the most one-sided and boring grannies in years. I think that was in 2007 ?

Hawks have played well against the Pies since 2006, winning 6 of 10 in that time. No doubt they will look to win another one this weekend......but I think we have a far better team these days. Most of the Hawks wins were in the 07-09 period when the Hawks won a premiership.

This is what Josh Gibson had to say about the upcoming game this weekend....

Josh Gibson wrote:....Hawthorn defender Josh Gibson rates Collingwood as the team to beat to win the AFL premiership.

The Hawks set up a mouth-watering clash at the MCG with the joint competition front-runners by crushing the Western Bulldogs by 72 points on Sunday to move into the top four.

The Magpies also showed great form in their win last round over title-holders Geelong.

Gibson said the clash with Collingwood would give his side a measure of how they are truly travelling.

"They've (Collingwood) been the in-form side of the competition this year, I think they won 10 straight at one stage.

"We want to play against the best and we get that challenge this week.

"It lets us see where we're at as a group and it's going to be a really good measuring stick."

Collingwood played Chris Tarrant up forward in their 31-point win over the Cats, giving them three big targets with Travis Cloke and Chris Dawes.

Gibson said his side was equipped to handle the challenge should Tarrant play forward again.

"We had 'Gilly' (Stephen Gilham) come back in on the weekend, and that gave us the luxury of playing 'Schoey' (Ryan Schoenmakers) forward, so I guess if they went tall we could always bring 'Schoey' back down back," the 28-year-old said.

"We'll just have to wait and see how we match up."

Skipper Luke Hodge was back at training over the weekend after another injury setback with a swollen knee and Gibson said he was unsure if he would be back for the big game.....

he has summed it up pretty well I think ? Really looking forward to this game, it should be a ripper.
