Hi all, I'm just new to this forum and don't really know anyone on it but I thought I might share with you an incident that happened to my wife and dog. Also need to rant.
Last Monday morning my wife was taking our dog out for a walk like she does everyday before going to work. I had already left for work as I usually start early. Our dog is a little white Maltese schitzu lap dog. My wife was only 50 meters from home when she spotted a dog running towards her, the dog was a staffy x pit bull. My wife picked up our dog and held it as high as she could, the staffy lunged at my wife biting her elbow, it then got hold of my dogs back leg and pulled it out of my wife's grasp. My wife managed to grab our dog again, mean while she was screaming for help, the staffy was growling and snarling at her and my dog was bleeding from a tear in its back leg. The staffy again jumped up and ripped the dog out of my wife's hands again, it was going in for the kill. My wife jumped on the staffy and pulled its jaw open to free our dog. While all this was going on the yelling and the screaming got all the neighbors out and they came running to help with sticks to beat the dog away.

In short, today's Wednesday, my dogs undergone two operations to repair a badly damaged left rear leg. My wife has cuts, bites and scratches over her arms and fingers. Total cost so far about $6000.

My wife and dog are going to be OK eventually. As for me, I'm ready to do some serious damage to the owner of this dog. The council have the dog impounded and on death row. Investigators with the council tell me that the dog has a microchip and that they know who the owner is, they can't share this info with me yet but they will after they have statements from the witnesses and the people that helped my wife. I've also got a solicitor on standby to get the civil action started as soon as I know.

RANT: I fucking hate irresponsible fucking dumb ass dog owners that need to have a dog like this to compensate for other deficiencies in there pathetic and otherwise useless lives.

Jeez. There's almost a story like this one every 6 months now. Why isn't this dog illegal to have I wonder?

Anyway mate, the important thing is your wife and dog both are okay. Other things can be taken care of. Brave of your wife to fight the devil of a dog.

As for the owner, sue the bastard and make sure you do everything in your power to recover the monies.

Trouble is when you add Pit Bull and careless owner you usually get "houso" brain dead, with no money, no job, and no way of paying the costs

Being attacked by any dog sucks and i hope it all ends well for you.But it generally the owner of the dog thats the problem,as far as staffys go most people dont know the difference between a staffy or just some cross breed.I have had 3 staffys and they have never attacked anything especially a person its all in the training of any dog in fact as far as attack go staffys are way down the list last time i checked collies were at the top then shepards then Jack russells .Again hope you all recover from this ordeal

I feel your pain mate, we have a shih tzu ourselves , would hate something like that to happen to ours not to mention the wife.
Unfortunately like smithy said, it's more than likely belongs to a drop-kick who hasn't got a penny to his name.

I had this same thing happen to me, but the staffy killed my cat & bit the ear off my dog.. I called the cops & the council rangers & they took the staffy away. You can claim under the dog owners home insurance policy. [Well thats what i did as it ripped my hand open & I needed a trip to the hospital for stitchers. The rangers rang the shitbag owner & spoke to his mother she said her son was on holidays & she was looking after the dog. So I claimed on her house insurance, for vet bills, & hospital bills + medication for us both.
This was many years ago I dont know if thats how it still works. The insurance co, mantained she did properly restrain the dog & they had to pay.
Hope your Mrs is ok & little mate is Ok .

PS:: to those that think its the owners fault, thats not 100% correct, pit bills, & staffys are known for being good with most people, but they are predisposed to hateing other dogs [& little children they dont know.] Its in their breeding & cant be changed. I work for the council & am good friends with the rangers/dog catchers. They all say the same thing, some staffys are great, but some are just savage & you cant breed that out. But never ever fully trust them..

You've inspired my own dog rant.

My Mrs, her friend, and someone from the local school have all been bitten by the Staffy next door.

The owners were lucky to not have it put down. Their 2nd dog is a big American Staffy which has also jumped the fence into our yard. I believe neither are allowed outside the yard and they have an electric fence to contain them. To top it all off they've also since bought a stupid big puppy and all 3 bark whenever we step out the back yard during the day. Along with the other neighbors shitzhu which barks for half an hour everytime it hears a noise, having outdoor dogs nextdoor the owners can't effectively train is awesome

I'm fine with them I could play with them all day, but they scare the shit out of me because they get out sometimes and we have 2 young kids who love playing in the front and back yard (and another on the way) :s

Back to original post it's ordinary mate, hope they both recover well, and welcome to the site.

It's irresponsible dog owners and a really bad freed of dog... I hate dogs all forms and breeds but especially pit bulls and staffys purely because they are an aggressive unpredictable breed of dog.... Why do people need dogs like this they are more often than not savage aggressive dogs regardless of their age or sex.... I think this breed of dog and all hunting breed of dog should be banned in this country... I know people don't agree but that's my thought... And I say to these people that do disagree imagine if one of these dogs attacked you or your child or a loved one how would you feel????? Hope you your wife and dog make a full recovery.. And make sure the arsehole dog owner is held 100% accountable..... Best wishes mate...

Paulmac, so sorry to hear you have been the victim of an aggressive and uncontrolled dog. I am a total dog lover, but, if I owned anything with bull terrier or pit bull blood, I would want to make sure that it was not only very well trained, but also that it was fort knox secure. I would most likely muzzle it in public too. As much as I love Bull breeds, they unfortunately have the ability to cause a lot of damage when they turn. I hope you heal fast both physically and emotionally. I also hope the owner mans up on it and meets all your outgoings.

To HeWasANinja. You're comments are totally ignorant. I mean the term ignorant not as a derogatory term towards you, but in the true sense of the meaning. In other words you lack knowledge. Bundling "Hunting dogs" into one basket is ignorant. Why ignorant? Well, there are several different types of "Hunting Dog". Not all of them are designed to kill things. As a matter of fact it is more uncommon for a hunting dog to kill something. Hunting dogs are bred to find, point, flush and then retrieve the prey......after WE have killed it. We are the killers, not the dogs. So either, do some research if you are ignorant, or, choose your wording more correctly and don't judge every "Hunting" breed as a killer or aggressor.

I own 3 hunting dogs. Not one of them has any signs of aggression towards other people or other dogs. My hunting dogs are more likely to kill you by drowning you in saliva than from biting you.

FWIW, a poodle is a hunting dog......................
