Digitector back for Christmas crackdown on speeding drivers
The Age
December 18, 2009 - 2:06PM

Police have a nasty seasonal surprise in store for speeding drivers with a device from the 1980s being brought back for a Christmas crackdown.

In time for the holiday period, police have dusted off the digitector, popular for catching speeding motorists up to 30 years ago.
The digitector consists of two strips placed on a road that measures the speed at which a car has travelled between the two points.

Senior Sergeant Wayne Cully said the digitector would catch drivers who believed they could outwit police.
"These days, repeat speeding offenders are always on the lookout for a police car with a radar attached, but they have all forgotten about the digitector," he said.
"It's pure mathematics. This device always catches the speeding drivers by surprise, they don't realise they've been caught until they're being waved in."

The digitector has remained in use but will be more widely employed by police during the Christmas holidays.

Mexicans
you have been warned...........!

The Digitector is Vicpol speek for what was/is known as the speed amphometer (and NOT to be confused with the nag of the same name... )

That's the set up they use south of Cann River at Motogp time every year..... Two wire cables across the road about two metres apart and a copper standing in the bush about 100 metres further down around the next bend........ sneaky bastards.......

Remember a cartoon in Racing Car news many years ago about these.

Two guys with hammers hit the strips just about the same time and the cop is amazed at something coming at him at 1000mph...

it was from the days of MPH not KPH...

Motogp trip 2005, talking to a guy from Goulburn at the Lakes Entrance pub who got picked up 136k in 100k, near Cann River. The coppers let him go cause while they were talking, another guy on a bike tripped the wires at near 200k

if these amphometers ( god there is a word I haven't used in years  ) are the same as the ones up here - they only extend across 1 lane and a bit into the other - trick is to just belt into the opposite lane as soon as you spot them.......if you can. Then slow the fuck down....

Hence I have my numberplate frame warning as many people as I can. Welcome to Victoria, speed camera state. Now if I only listened to my own advice sometime..

Gos, the problem with those are they look almost exactly the same as those counter devices they use to find out how many vehicles go down a road. At least on the road, however i don't know what the box on the side of the road looks like. Then again i figure at any speed you wont be able to tell the difference between the two.

Mike, the Vic speed trap ones are just two steel wires about as thin as a coat hanger, you generally don't notice them until you hit the first one..... although I noticed link 2 states its a black tube :? :? maybe they have two types :? :?

The NSW road counters are black rubber, spot then a long way off...
