Anyone know the NSW sentencing system at all?

I'm trying to find out when and where someone will be sentenced. I know the general public are allowed to observe sentencing hearings, but I cannot find the information I'm looking for.

I know the person's name. I have heard (unconfirmed) that their sentencing will be on Thursday this week. I know they plead guilty at Downing Centre Local Court to numerous counts of obtaining money by deception.

I don't know enough about the court system to know if the sentencing will take place at the same venue or not. I have found this court listing:
http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/lawlink/l ... courtlists
but when I check Thursday, his name does not appear. I have checked both civil and criminal (though I'm pretty sure this falls under criminal) and I've checked a few days either side as well, and still can't find the person's name.

Is there anywhere else that I could / should be checking?

Cath, I would contact the court directly. Our Courts Administration Authority provide that kind of information here, but I'm not sure if they provide it direct to the public. If they don't tell you, ring again tomorrow and tell them you are the accused's sister, that you haven't been able to contact them and you want to know when they are in court next. :)

Sentincing is normally heard in the same court, and generally by the same magistrate. However, that doesn't help you if you don't know what day it's on.

Thank Smitty & Aardvark - I'll call them if I can't find out any other way tomorrow.

Not a friend, Mick and the money wasn't mine. But it was someone I was in close daily contact with for two years and am interested in the outcome.

Post highjack. Sorry Cath.
Am interested also in how you find out about court listings.
Its on a to do list when I can to spend a day off work watching the happenings in the magistrates court just for voyeurism. Same goes for a day watching the Melbourne Stock exchange and futures markets. Not to mention I would like to spend a day in the public gallery of parliament.

Thanks for the help everyone, both in this thread and via PM.

I wasn't able to attend the sentencing as they never ended up publishing the time and I totally forgot to call yesterday arvo. I just couldn't justify taking the whole day off to sit and wait - I was hoping to only take a few hours out of my day.
He got jail time anyway, which was what I was hoping for. Hopefully it'll be on the news tonight so I can see his face as he gets dragged off to jail.
