google it. better still, go to the motherboard manufacturers site and dl it from their support section. if you don't know the manufacturer or mobo name, take the left side (looking at the tower from the front) off and have a look on the board, it'll be written on it somewhere. the ac-97 codec is a generic onboard sound driver, however it's better to get these things oem coz sometimes they do silly things with drivers. hope this helps.

Mick

what sorta PC?
if its a HP..there is an issue with the Realtech AC-97 driver for them!
recently did a windows update and it also updated the AC-97 driver on Jans HP
...and the sound stopped. I had to uninstall the updated driver to get the sound back

other than that
you can delete the soundcard and re-start the PC and let it be re-installed which sometimes clears this
sort of this... or Google it for the latest and then do a driver update

From my worldly experience with all problems computer related i have found that a large hammer, either claw or ball pein will do if no sledge hammer is available followed by a refreshing beers does the trick just fine. It fixes all alien.gif
