I donate blood every 2 weeks, is a heck of a lot less painless now than it was when I started donating many eons ago. You can expect two small pricks, (there's a line but i'm not touching it) one in a finger and one in a vein in the crook of your elbow, they'll check your weight, blood pressure and pulse and get some personal medical history, you sign the declaration and at the end of it all you'll even know your blood type (if you don't already).
A good mate will bail you out of jail, a true mate will be sitting in the cell next to you saying "Damn, we fucked up!!!"

I donate every time the bus comes near work (about every 3 months). It's a good way to get over that fear of needles, eventually you'll be watching them do it  . Drinking lots of water helps them find the vein and keeps the blood well hydrated so it flows well. Start drinking more than usual the night before for best results  . I can definately recommend eating something at least an hour before donating, as I donated once feeling hungry and that didn't end up so good. Nothing a quick snack doesn't fix but it's best to avoid that. The actual donation usually takes about 5-10 minutes, but if they're busy (which is usual for a bus) the process can take up to an hour.

Afterwards just take it easy, drink lots still and have a decent feed. It'll probably take a day or two before you can do heavy exercise again, but just keep it in mind, if you start feeling light headed take a break. It's a good excuse to be lazy for a bit.

I'd like to donate a lot more frequently, but the system is a "bit" backward. You have to book in in advance, etc..
You wonder how many people donate today, having to organise themselves around it and how many would donate far more regularly if it was made easy and quick to do so... like having a registry in place that would allow people to rock-up at the bus and give blood in a matter of 20 minutes.

Anyhow, we all should and you're doing a good thing :kuda:

Wtf is it with peple scared to give blood? What happens if you're in an acco and you need to RECEIVE blood, still shit scared then?? It's 2 small needles for fucks sake, not like they let you leave the place with needles hanging from your vein and you leave a trail of blood wherever you go...

HTFU for fucks sake, friggin blouses.
