Australia- A Quick Reminder

As some of you may know my riding days got numbered after the Putty incident a few year ago, not to say I haven't been working on 'it' since.

So in an effort to curb the desire to say fuck it I'm going out and buying a new one, I have attempted to fill the void with other pastimes.

Purchased a ski boat, learnt to ski, all good but just not the sort of thing you can do at the drop of a hat, what with work, hooking a couple of mates for a day in between everybodies comittments etc etc.

Travelling and holidaying, farkin expensive and takes money from the future bike purchase.

Drinking, as everyone knows contributes to weight problems and ecourages couldn't be bothered attitude :kuda:

So, yesterday I thought a nice idea would be to take my daughter and wife fishing down at Brooklyn, wonderful lets go. Launched at Berowra and cruised around to the bridges, about 15 minutes.
Threw the lines in and woo hoo straight in to some great bass and bream, Becs having a ball catching regularly for the first time, no BOREDNESS!
Then she hooks a stingray, fark, bring it up and cut the line, done.
A few bream later and she hooks in again, this time a catfish about 30 cm long only a tiny one but fark me didn't he pack a punch. Now being a converted Pommy you forget to give respect to the Aussie flora and forna, theres only one poisonous snake in the UK and you rarely see one, so as a dumb ass pom, you forget.
It's ok Bec I'll wrap it in a rag and pull the hook, FARKthe little bastard spiked me, felt like a bee sting, for about 3 minutes then the excrutiating pain started to hit.
Didn't know wether it was gonna kill me or what, so after 5 minutes decided to get back to the marina for first aid, couldn't lift the anchor so cut the line loose, cranked up the boat and sped back to Berowra at around 70/80mph flat stick, left the water heaps of time and the old girl( the boat) loved it, the other old girl didn't me thinks, the pain was intense, like nothing I have ever felt, and I have had some accos in my time but this was the worst.

Got back to marina and the bloke in the tackle shop told me to immerse the painfull area in a sink he filled with almost boiling water, the relief was almost instant but the second the water cooled or I took my hand out it returned. After half an hour I decided enough was enough and Sue my wife called the ambos, 20 mins later they arrived, took one look at me, shaking and sweating profusely and got me to suck down 2 green sticks which assisted for about 20 mins on the way to hospital, then the pain returned, so in went the morphine! Farkin morphine to cover the pain, FFS it was a little fish and I'm 100kg NWSHCC (woops shouldn't have posted those intials).

5 hrs later, 2 lots of morphine and a lot of farkin around getting someone to load the boat back on the trailer, fetch car etc etc, I'm discharged with morphine tabs and a feeling of being as high as a kite!

The incident happened at 3pm and we got home at 10!

This incident was amazing, we left to have a really nice family day, we were having a ball, the weather was perfect, the fish were on form and the company was excellent.
It goes to show you have to respect the fact that a simple bite or sting from what may look innocent can ruin a day or even kill you.
Farkin catfish, I feel sorry for the next one I catch!

So has anyone else had a similar experience?

Cheers,

Damo

I got spiked by a flathead once by the one's on the side in the gills.....Was a very painfull experience...Thats why we always carry a nappy  (material one)....Every time we go fishing down the coast....We wrap the fish in it to pick them up as not to get spiked.....Apparently they inject something so the blood won't clot,Although this could be BS as I was told this by the pissheads I go fishing with  ....

This is correct. The remedy is to wipe some of the flatheads body slime on the cut.

And I can't believe nobody has said, HTFU!

I understand tho, this happened to my fishing partner some time ago, in roughly the same area by the sound of it. The problem was he was sitting on the bow at the time, and he deals with pain by passing out. I managed to drag his out-cold ass into the boat and get him to the ambo's off the F3 there near the bridges. Left a 1cm cut in a leather riggers glove to remember it by.

Fark that, seriously. For your next trick why don't you go put your nuts in a vice, sounds like it'd be less painfull.
