High-speed pass fails to impress police
Article from: Herald Sun AAP November 25, 2008 12:00am
A MOTORIST who overtook a marked police car at more than 160km/h on a Melbourne freeway has had his car impounded for 48 hours.
Police allege the Mitsubishi Lancer's 27-year-old driver from Thomastown, flashed past the patrol car, stationed at Epping, as both travelled along the Western Ring Rd at Epping about 8.40pm yesterday. The driver was pulled over a short distance on.
"It was inexplicable that a car would firstly go that speed but secondly go straight past a marked police car," Acting Sergeant James Bowen of Epping police said.
"Drivers need to be aware of the consequences and what could happen if they hit someone else."
The driver has been charged with exceeding the speed limit and his car has been impounded for 48 hours under Victoria's anti-hoon laws.
