I’ve been called in to shake up the youth in a rural community. I’ve had a look in town and they have an unused dirt bike track…so the brainstorming began. I’ve also heard about a (Honda) sponsored racing program for kids…

Clearly im going to do some major research in the area and with the teens, but im brain storming some ideas for my back pocket and im really interested in what you guys think about the following couple of questions -

* What Values do you consider to be invaluable to a person and why
The main two that come to mind for me are;
Respect: For other peoples opinions and views right wrong or otherwise
Selflessness: Helping/supporting others, just because you can.

* Do you know of any bike (road/dirt) programs, which have run in the past?

Or any other advice you'd like to post ...

I think it's a great idea mate.

My young fella did minikhana and then open motocross for years and i reckon it instills some sensational values in a kid eg

Safety. Your playing with yours and everyone elses so wear the right gear and look out on the track
Responsibility. You stuff up and it hurts you and someone else
Respect. Judges/Marshalls don't always get it right but you learn to cop it and get on with life.
Discilpine. You've got to make sure your gear is good, your bike is good, you get it scrutineered, be ready for each event, wait your turn.
Strategic Thinking. Just going as fast as you can doesn't always mean you win.
Mateship/Selflessness. Between races everyone is working on whoevers bike needs it because you want your mate to be out there with you. Everyone shares bits and chips in.
Competitiveness. Your mate's your mate but you still want to beat him and still be mates

The minikhana clubs that run in Sydney are really good at getting kids into this early

im not that old but looking from a kids perspective, its great fun. and you Learn great skills.

they come in handy when you want to leave "big blick darkies!"
